Farewell to SGARP 2026 and happy ten years to this amazing project! Hard to believe another field season has come and gone, but this summer featured some truly AMAZING archaeology and friendships! DOMANI! Please join us as we celebrate the end of our 2026 season and debut new archaeological materials from the third Caiolo tumulus and our medieval La Rocca excavations!

Another tumulus! We can hardly believe it, but this season the San Giuliano Archaeological Research Project has helped to uncover a second intact tumulus on the Caiolo Plateau. We are so excited to share this discovery with the town of Barbarano Romano and our many wonderful partners. Thank you to Rinaldo Marchesi, Angelo Fiaschetti, Giuseppe Fortuna, Angela Cassota, Vittorio Sperandei and to the Parco Regionale Marturanum, Virgil Academy, and the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per La provincia di Viterbo e per l’Etruria Meridionale. Finally, a massive congratulations to Dr. Jamie Aprile, the director of the Caiolo Plateau excavations! We are thrilled!

Thank you to everyone came to celebrate the discovery of the Tomba dei Vasi con Uccelli Dipinti! It was wonderful to share the details of this new tumulus and to reveal the conserved artifacts in the Museo delle Necropoli Rupestri! Special thank you’s to Vittorio Sperandei for many of these exceptional photos, the Comune di Barbarano Romano, the Parco Regionale Marturanum, Virgil Academy, and the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per La provincia di Viterbo e per l’Etruria Meridionale for their hard work and support.
