LungA School⎜LungA Skólinn, Austurvegur 4, Seyðisfjörður (2026)

As the name implies it considers itself a school, but if we imagine that we did not only call it a school, but something else such as 'a work of art', or 'a commune' these terms seem to be able to fit as well, and not only do they fit, but they seem to be able to describe some aspects of this place which we consider to be essential. Apparently, these terms and concept which we recognize through a range of more or less clearly defined conditions, have, in the case of this particular school, several overlapping conditions so that it is not enough to simply talk about this as a school if we wish to describe it in a way that might convey, more fully, the experience of being here. This means that we have been developing several voices that stand on all sides of the school and speak to the aspects that it sees. The LungA School is an entity staging its own existence. It is the form given to an attempt to live our way into some answers that cannot be found in any other way than by the passing of time, the unfolding of events and the thoughtful consideration and contemplation upon it all. Or rather: it is the form given to a way of living with the questions.

LungA School offers 12 week/84 day ART and LAND programs in the fall and spring. Those twelve weeks are a mix of workshops hosted by guests and weeks that are focused on developing one’s own praxis through experimentation, conversation and reflection. You stay and live at the school for the duration of the program.

Inspired by 'The composition of the cell' by Lyn Hejinian, the program is finding its language as in its own environment. Tracking daily observations becomes an act of scientific and poetic precision.

Dear friends, we are open for applications for the Art programme in Fall. September 28th - December 18th 2026. You can apply through our website and if you have any questions please send us a DM or email. We are very very excited to read your applications.

We are a school that insists on the value and existence of those things that cannot be measured and insist on making them felt. We insist on opening up the way we see, think and do. We insist that seeing, thinking and doing are not separate activities. We insist on the infinite potential that each situation and everyone in it holds and on drawing out those potentials. We insist on giving time, space, support, and amplification to everyone so that their language, the way they interact with all material and immaterial circumstances, may be developed and rooted in them and in their lives.
