The Iceland Writers Retreat Alumni Award is now accepting applications!

This award provides full or partial funding to talented writers who would otherwise be unable to attend the retreat — because we believe great writing shouldn't be limited by what you can afford.

The retreat itself (April 14–18, 2027, in Reykjavík) includes:

Small-group writing workshops for all levels, led by well-known writers from around the world
Unique panels featuring Icelandic authors
All-inclusive literary tours to experience Iceland's inspiring nature
A literary walking tour of Reykjavík, a UNESCO City of Literature
Additional readings and panels by our faculty
Music, meals, community, and so much more

Applications are open from September 16 to October 16 and are hosted through our application platform, Award Force. Don't let cost be the reason you don't apply — click the link below to learn more and submit your application.

Explore, Learn, Create — and let's help you get there.

We're in our final days of fundraising for our Alumni Award and so close to our goal!

The Alumni Award helps talented writers attend IWR when the cost might otherwise put the experience out of reach. And it is made possible by our community.

The more we raise, the more support we can offer.

Donate by September 15. Every contribution helps open the door a little wider. Link in bio or visit https://icelandwritersretreat.com/scholarships/

Through September 15, we’re raising funds to help writers attend IWR who otherwise would not be able to afford to participate. And the more we raise, the more support we can provide.

If IWR has meant something to you—or if you believe in creating opportunities for writers to grow and connect—we hope you’ll help us make that experience possible for someone else.

Support the IWR Alumni Award by September 15.
