The Icelandic Ministry of Culture and Business Affairs awards annually a number of scholarships for BA-studies in Icelandic as a second language at the University of Iceland. The scholarship program is administrated by the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies.

Application deadline is December 1st each year.

Hópur fólks á Íslandi, í Frakklandi, Finnlandi, Sviss, Austurríki og víðar tekur nú þátt í bókmennta-og heilsuátakinu Laxness 119 sem stendur yfir frá 8. febrúar sem var dánardagur Halldórs Laxness til 23. apríl sem var fæðingardagur skáldsins en í ár eru liðin 119 ár frá því að hann fæddist. Fólkið sem tekur þátt í átakinu er hvatt til að lesa eina eða fleiri skáldsögur eftir Halldór á tímabilinu. Einnig er fólk hvatt til að stunda þá hreyfingu sem hentar því best. Sumir hyggjast ganga, skokka, hlaupa eða hjóla 119 kílómetra á tímabilinu 8. febrúar til 23. apríl sem er lokadagur átaksins, meðan aðrir ætla til dæmis að sippa 119 sinnum.

Despite the pandemic (faraldurinn), this year’s course was a successful one! We held two parallel courses in July, one online for those who couldn’t travel, with 10 participants; and another one in-situ in Reykjavik with 18 participants. We hope we could repeat the same next year. And Rósalind Rektor - the university cat - kept us a company during our final get together in Reykjavík (you can spot her in the photo below).
