24/04/2015

28 April 2015, Dr. Mina Bigdeli (IASBS), 15:30-17, IASBS Lecture Hall.
Abstract:
Graphs with whiskers have first been considered by R.H.Villarreal in 1990. These graphs share the nice property that they are Cohen-Macaulay. Various extensions of this concept and generalizations of his result have been considered.

In this talk a simplicial complex corresponding to a zero-dimensional monomial ideal I is considered. This simplicial complex is called of whisker type. The independence complex of this simplicial complex is vertex decomposable. Moreover, all the powers of the Alexander dual of the polarization of the ideal I have linear quotients. An explicit formula for the depth function of these ideals will be given.

PSEUDO-DIFFERENTIAL OPERATORS ON NON-ISOTROPIC
HEISENBERG GROUPS WITH MULTI-DIMENSIONAL CENTERS
14 April 2015, Dr. Shahla Mollahajloo (IASBS), 15:30-17, IASBS Lecture Hall.
Abstract:
We rst introduce non-isotropic Heisenberg groups with multi-imensional centers and the cor-responding Schrodinger representations. The Wigner and Weyl transforms are then dened.
Using the Stone-von Neumann theorem, the Fourier transform is dened in terms of these representations and the Fourier inversion formula is given. Pseudo-di erential operators with operator-valued symbols are introduced and can be thought of as noncommutative quantiza-tions. We give necessary and sucient conditions on the symbols for which these operators are in the Hilbert-Schmidt class. We also give a characterization of trace class pseudo-di erential
operators and a trace formula for these trace class operators.

Prime Submodules and Zariski Spaces of Modules

13 January 2015, Dr. Ashkan Nikseresht (IASBS), 15:30-17,
IASBS Lecture Hall.

Abstract:
Prime ideals play a key role in the study of commutative rings. In particular, suppose that 𝒫 is the set of all prime ideals of a commutative ring R and for each ideal I of R set 𝒱(I)={P∈ 𝒫 | I⊆P}, =⋂{P| P∈𝒱(I)} (the prime radical of I in R) and also ζ(R) = {𝒱(I)| I is an ideal of R}. Then it is well-known that
(a) ζ(R) can be seen as the family of the closed sets of a topology on 𝒫, called the Zariski topology;
(b) = {r∈R| ∃n∈ℕ ∈I} for each ideal I of R.
The main goal of this talk is to present generalizations of these two properties to unitary R-modules.

Efficient computation of highly oscillatory integrals: The state-of-the-art

06 January 2015, Dr. Hassan Majidian (Iran Encyclopedia Compiling Foundation), 15:30-17,
IASBS Lecture Hall.

Abstract:
We study efficient numerical methods for computing highly oscillatory integrals of the general form.
Such integrals appear in the problem of sound-soft scattering by high frequency incident waves.
If the frequency 𝜔 is very large, traditional quadrature methods (e.g., Newton-Cotes and Gauss-Legendre) become completely inefficient, so special methods are needed. Steepest descent and Filon-type methods are among most important and efficient methods for computing highly oscillatory integrals. The origin of these methods dates back several decades. Indeed, the methods have been being improved during these years, and many important papers have been appeared in just recent years. In this talk, we try to give a review to this course of progress and provide a state-of-the-art.

Colloquia take place on selected Tuesday afternoon during the academic year from 3:30-4:30, in Chemistry Lecture Hull.
Lectures last 45 minutes and are followed by a short question period.
They are directed towards a general mathematical audience and to present expository lectures.
These colloquia let graduate students to know other mathematicians around the country and their works for collaborations and perhaps continuing their studies with them if interested.
