This weekend, as I wandered through the lively Tajrish Fruit Market in northern Tehran, I gradually felt that the boundary between me and the market had begun to dissolve. The vendors’ calls, the scent of cardamom, the gleam of cherries, the piles of Iranian pistachios, and the flow of shoppers all merged into a single unfolding field of consciousness.
