Non-Selective Admission Policy

The SABIS® Educational System is highly academically-oriented without being highly selective. The criterion for acceptance in a class is academic attainment, not age. Although age acts as a limiting factor, it is possible to find a three-year age range in the same class. In general, any student willing to learn is accepted.
Placement Overview

There are no academic requirements for acceptance into Kindergarten (3 to 5 years of age). Prospective students at these levels are interviewed; they must be toilet-trained and able to speak and follow simple instructions.
All other prospective students take diagnostic tests in the core subjects. These tests help to determine if the students have attained the minimum expected standard for each subject. The school then makes final placement decisions but can resort to the various strategies at its disposal to help bring a student to the required level. For example, there is the option of attending summer school or perhaps extra classes in a subject. Special academic support is taken very seriously by the school.

Special Academic Support

The criterion for acceptance into the school is the willingness to put in the effort to achieve full potential, not high 'innate' ability. Placement into classes is determined by academic attainment, with age acting as a limiting factor. Students applying to enter Grade 2 and above must take diagnostic tests to determine placement.
Students who are found to be behind academically are rarely refused. Instead, they are offered, at an extra cost, one of several different solutions, depending on their academic needs. These may be:
Summer School: A six-week summer course offered in June, July, and August. Students who are academically below the required standard can attend this course and often make up for academic gaps.
Special Lessons: A student found to be weak in one subject attends extra periods in that subject until the level of the class is reached.
Full-Special Classes: Students are given accelerated programs intended to prepare them to join the regular classes. In many cases, Full-Special students have done the work of two or more scholastic years in one.

SABIS® Educational System

SABIS® Educational System has been developed, refined, and tested for over a century. This system was conceived to provide a truly international education that is geared toward the achievement of academic excellence. The resulting curriculum is comprehensive and dynamic, being updated as necessary to keep it relevant to the age, the international community, and the global environment.
Planning & Preparing

The formula in SABIS® Educational System is thorough preparation precedes teaching. Every course is researched, structured and described in terms of clearly stated objectives. A plan for every subject at every stage is prepared. Each plan is complete: it includes all of the points to be taught and the skills to be developed; it is detailed: each objective is precise and measurable; and it is paced: progress is charted against a timeline. The plan for each stage dovetails with that of the following stage, ensuring that nothing essential to further learning is omitted, and enabling a smooth and successful transition from one year to the next.
Teaching Methods

The whole class is taught together, using the SABIS® Point System™. The key concepts of a lesson are listed. Each of these is taught interactively, alternating oral work, individual written work, and group checking. Class time is utilized for building a solid foundation of knowledge through interacting, analyzing, forming and expressing opinions, and engaging in effective discussions. These discussions are based on critical thinking and logical reasoning.
The various teaching methods used and the pace set stimulate students by keeping them interested and channeling their enthusiasm. When in class, students learn actively: they do not simply listen to lengthy explanations or take dictated notes.
Testing & Monitoring

Continuous evaluation of student learning is an integral part of the instructional process in the SABIS® system. Frequent and regular testing is conducted in order to evaluate student learning and permit timely, positive intervention. Testing students in this way has a number of very important advantages:
Students are trained to perform well under pressure
Students develop the ability to focus and sustain concentration for increasingly long periods
The feedback from testing allows close monitoring and follow-up
The proprietary SABIS® Software Systems provide many programs that allow prompt, reliable assessment of student knowledge as well as effective follow-up. One such program, the SABIS® Academic Monitoring System™ (SABIS® AMS™), is used to assess student knowledge of every concept taught. The SABIS® AMS™ allows 'gaps' in student knowledge to be pinpointed as they form. Working as a team, teachers and students then focus on 'filling the gaps.' The SABIS® AMS™ allows the progress of every student to be continuously monitored, the problem areas to be identified, and the most appropriate solutions to be implemented.
Follow-Up

The progress of every student is continuously followed up, and students are given the support they need. All available means are used to help those who fall behind to catch up. They are advised on study techniques, motivated by the academic staff, and assisted by peer-tutors or teachers. In the SABIS® School Network, no one is left to his/her own devices.
SABIS® SLO™

The schools in the SABIS® School Network firmly believe that education has the power to change the world. The SABIS Student Life Organization® (SABIS® SLO™), a distinctive and integral part of the SABIS® Educational System, gives students the opportunity to develop 'life' skills that empower them to make a difference.
The SABIS® SLO™ is the students' mini-society. Prefects who are selected - not elected - manage the SABIS® SLO™. All students are encouraged to join the SABIS® SLO™ and take an active part in their education, both at the academic and non-academic levels. Working in cooperation with and complementing the efforts of the administrative and academic staff, prefects are valuable assets to their schools. They help to raise the general standard, promote high social and moral values, and encourage participation in a wide range of additional activities. Student Life Officers allocate 'real-life' tasks to students, and advise and support them in all of their efforts.

دعم أكاديميّ خاصّ

إنّ المعيار الأساسيّ للالتحاق بالمدرسة هو عزم الطّالب على بذل جهد لتحقيق كامل قدراته، وليس تمتّعه بقدرات "فطريّة" عالية. ويتحدّد وضع التّلميذ في صفّ معيّن بحسب مستواه الأكاديميّ، ويشكّل السّنّ عاملًا محدّدًا. يجب على الطّلّاب الّذين يرغبون الالتحاق بالصّفّ الثّاني أو ما فوق إجراء اختبارات تشخيصيّة لتحديد الصّفّ الّذي يجب وضعهم فيه.
نادرًا ما يُرفض دخول الطّلّاب المتراجعين أكاديميًّا. وإنّما يُمنحون عدّة حلول، مقابل كلفة إضافيّة، بحسب احتياجاتهم الأكاديميّة:
مدرسة صيفيّة: دروس صيفيّة تُعطى على فترة ستّة أسابيع في حزيران/يونيو، تموز/يوليو وآب/أغسطس. ويمكن للطّلّاب الّذين هم تحت المستوى الأكاديميّ المطلوب حضور الصّفوف وسدّ الثّغرات الأكاديميّة.
دروس خصوصيّة: يحضر الطّالب الّذي يبدو ضعيفًا في مادّة ما حصصًا إضافيّة في هٰذه المادّة حتّى يصبح في مستوى الصّفّ.
دروس خصوصيّة كاملة: يُعطى الطّلّاب برامج دراسيّة مكثّفة لتحضيرهم للانضمام إلى الصّفوف العاديّة. في كثير من الحالات، يكون الطّلّاب الّذين يحضرون هٰذه الصفوف قد قاموا بعمل سنتين دراسيّتين أو أكثر في عام واحد.

سياسة قبول غير صارمة المعايير

إنّ نظام ®SABIS التّربوي أكاديميّ بامتياز من دون أن يكون في غاية الصّرامة من حيث معايير قبول الطّلّاب، إذ تعتمد المعايير على الإنجازات الأكاديميّة وليس على السّنّ. على الرّغم من أنّ السّنّ يلعب دور العامل المحدّد، يمكن إيجاد اختلاف في السّنّ يصل حتّى ثلاثة أعوام في الصّفّ نفسه. بشكل عامّ، يتمّ قبول أيّ طالب راغب في العلم.
نظرة شاملة على وضع الطّلّاب في الصّفوف

ما من متطلّبات أكاديميّة لقبول الطّلّاب في مرحلة الرّوضة (من سنّ 3 إلى 5 سنوات). تتمّ مقابلة الطّلّاب المتقدّمين إلى هٰذه المستويات؛ ويجب أن يكونوا مدرّبين على الدّخول إلى الحمّام وقادرين على التّحدّث واتّباع التّعاليم البسيطة.
يخضع سائر الطّلّاب المتقدّمين الآخرين لإختبارات تشخيصيّة في الموادّ الأساسيّة. وتساعد هٰذه الإختبارات في تحديد ما إذا كان الطّلّاب قد بلغوا المستوى الأدنى المطلوب في كلّ مادّة. ثمّ، تتّخذ المدرسة القرار النهائيّ لوضع الطّالب في الصّفّ المناسب، ولكن يمكنها اللجوء إلى استراتيجيّات عديدة بحسب ما تراه مناسبًا لمساعدة الطّالب على بلوغ المستوى المطلوب. مثلًا، هناك المدرسة الصيفيّة أو الدّروس المكثّفة في مادّة معيّنة. تأخذ المدرسة المساعدة الأكاديميّة الخاصّة على محمل الجدّ.

نظام ®SABIS التّربويّ

تمّ تطوير نظام ®SABIS التّربويّ وتحسينه واختباره على مدى أكثر من قرن. كما تمّ ابتكاره ليقدّم تعليمًا عالميًّا موجّهًا نحو تحقيق الامتياز الأكاديميّ. فجاء المنهج المدرسيّ شاملًا وديناميكيًّا، وهو يخضع للتّحديث عند اقتضاء الحاجة ليبقى مواكبًا للعصر وللمجتمع الدّوليّ وللبيئة العالميّة.
التّخطيط والتّحضير

يستند نظام ®SABIS التّربوي على فكرة أنّ التّحضير الدّقيق يسبق التّعليم. فتُجرى الأبحاث على كلّ مادّة وتتمّ هيكلتها ووصفها تبعًا لأهداف مذكورة بوضوح. كما تُحضّر خطّة لكلّ مادّة عند كلّ مرحلة. وتتّسم كلّ خطّة بتكاملها، فهي تشمل جميع النّقاط الّتي يجب تدريسها، والمهارات الّتي يجب تطويرها. وتتميّز بتفاصيلها. فكلّ هدف من أهدافها محدّد وقابل للقياس. وأخيرًا، إنّها محدّدة الوتيرة، إذ يتمّ تعقّب التقدّم بحسب جدول زمنيّ. وتترابط خطّة كلّ مرحلة مع خطّة المرحلة المقبلة للحرص على عدم إلغاء أيّ عامل أساسيّ معزّز للتّعليم ولتأمين انتقال سلس وناجح من سنة إلى أخرى.
أساليب التّعليم

يتعلّم جميع الطّلّاب في الصّفّ سويًّا، وذلك باستخدام نظام التّعليم بحسب الأهداف ®SABIS Point System. فيتمّ تعداد مفاهيم الدّرس الأساسيّة وتدريسها بشكل تفاعليّ مع التّنويع بين العمل الشّفهيّ والعمل الفرديّ المكتوب وعمل الفرق. ويُستثمر الوقت الّذي يقضيه الطّلّاب في الصّفّ لإرساء أساس صلب من المعرفة، عبر التّفاعل والتّحليل وتشكيل الآراء والتّعبير عنها والمشاركة في نقاشات فعّالة مرتكزة على التّفكير النّاقد والاستنتاج المنطقيّ.
تحفّز أساليب التّعليم المتنوّعة المستعملة، إلى جانب السّرعة المحدّدة لها، الطّلّاب عبر إثارة اهتمامهم باستمرار وتوجيه اندفاعهم. عندما يكون الطّلّاب في الصّفّ، يتعلّمون بنشاط، فهم لا يكتفون ببساطة بالاستماع إلى التفسيرات المطوّلة أو بتدوين الملاحظات الّتي تُملى عليهم.
الإختبار والمراقبة

يشكّل التّقييم المستمرّ للتّعليم جزءًا لا يتجزّأ من العمليّة التّعليميّة في نظام ®SABIS. ويتمّ إجراء الاختبارات بانتظام وبشكل متكرّر لتقييم تعلّم الطّلّاب وللسّماح بتدخّل إيجابي في الوقت المناسب. ويتميّز اختبار الطّلّاب بهذه الطريقة بعدد من المنافع البالغة الأهميّة:
يُدرّب الطّلّاب ليقدّموا عملًا جيّدًا تحت الضّغط
ينمّي قدرة الطّلّاب على المحافظة على تركيزهم لفترات طويلة من الوقت
تسمح نتيجة الاختبار بمراقبة الطّالب عن كثب ومتابعته
تؤمّن أنظمة البرمجيّات الّتي يملكها نظام ®SABIS برامج عديدة تسمح بتقييم فوريّ وموثوق به لمعرفة أداء الطّلّاب، كما تؤمّن متابعة فعّالة لهم. ويُستعمل أحد هذه البرامج، برنامج المراقبة الأكاديمية ®SABIS Academic Monitoring System لتقييم معرفة الطّلّاب لكلّ مفهوم تعلّموه. كما يسمح هٰذا البرنامج بتحديد الثّغرات في معرفة الطّالب فور تشكّلها. ومن خلال العمل كفريق واحد، يركّز الطّلّاب والأساتذة معًا على "سدّ الثغرات". بذلك، يتابع برنامج ®SABIS AMS تقدّم كلّ طالب ويراقبه بشكل مستمرّ، كما يحدّد نقاط الضّعف ويسعى إلى تطبيق الحلول الأكثر ملاءمةً.
المتابعة

تتمّ متابعة تقدّم كلّ طالب باستمرار ويُمنح التّلاميذ الدّعم الّذي يحتاجونه. كما تُستعمل جميع الوسائل المتوفّرة لمساعدة الطّلّاب المتأخّرين في صفّهم. فيتلقّون النّصائح حول تقنيّات الدّرس والتّشجيع من الهيئة الأكاديميّة، والمساعدة من زملائهم أو من الأساتذة. في شبكة مدارس ®SABIS، لا يُترك أيّ طالب وحده من دون دعم.
هيئة الحياة الطّلّابية ®SABIS Student Life Organization

تؤم®ن المدارس في شبكة مدارس SABIS أنّ التعليم قادر على تغيير العالم. وتمنح هيئة الحياة الطّلّابيّة ®SABIS Student Life Organization الّتي تشكّل جزءًا مميّزًا لا يتجزّأ من نظام ®SABIS التّربويّ الطّلّاب فرصة تطوير المهارات "الحياتيّة" الّتي تسلّحهم بالقدرة على إحداث تغيير.
تشكّل هيئة الحياة الطّلّابية ®SLO مجتمعًا طلاّبيًّا مصغّرًا. ويتولّى التّلامذة المفوّضون عن هٰذه الهيئة والّذين يتمّ اختيارهم وليس انتخابهم، إدارة ®SLO. ويُشجَّع جميع الطّلّاب على الانتساب إلى هيئة الحياة الطّلّابية ®SLO والمشاركة فعليًّا في مسيرتهم التّعليميّة، على الصّعيدين الأكاديميّ وغير الأكاديميّ. يعمل التّلامذة المفوّضون عن هيئة الحياة الطّلّابيّة بالتّعاون مع الهيئة الإداريّة والهيئة الأكاديميّة، فتتكامل جهود الجميع. ويشكّل هٰؤلاء التّلامذة ثروة لمدارسهم. فهم يساعدون في رفع المستوى العام وتعزيز القيم الأخلاقيّة والاجتماعيّة العالية والتّشجيع على المشاركة في مجموعة واسعة من النّشاطات الإضافيّة. يوزّع التّلامذة المفوّضون عن هيئة الحياة الطّلّابية مهامًّا حقيقيّة على الطّلّاب وينصحونهم ويمدّونهم بالدّعم في جميع الجهود الّتي يبذلونها.
