We are proud to highlight the participation of our SPE Student Chapter at the 12th Soran University Student Conference.

Our research group from presented their study titled:
“Investigating and Optimizing Operational Parameters of the Synthesis of ZnO Nanoparticles for Enhancing Wastewater Treatment.”

The research focuses on improving the efficiency of nanoparticle synthesis to support more sustainable and effective water purification solutions an important step toward addressing environmental challenges.

We extend our appreciation to the supervisors and faculty members for their continuous guidance and support. The conference was further strengthened by the presence and participation of our chapter president and vice president, reflecting the active engagement and commitment of our SPE community.

• Controlled and monitored VDU/Vacuum Tower via DCS (pressure, level, temperature, flow)
• Adjusted set-points, monitored trends & alarms, and maintained unit stability
• Supported startup/shutdown, troubleshooting, and ensured HSE & SOP compliance
• Recorded operational data and reported performance issues to supervisors and engineers
• Coordinated with field teams to verify equipment status and implement actions safely
• Acted as on-the-job instructor/mentor for fresh operators
• Ensured smooth shift handovers through clear communication

📚 SPE Soran University Chapter Book Club

We’re happy to share that we’ve started the SPE Soran University Chapter Book Club.

It’s a simple idea we sit together, read meaningful books, and talk about them. No pressure. Just honest discussions and different perspectives.

We started with:

• White Nights — Fyodor Dostoevsky
• The Art of Always Being Right — Arthur Schopenhauer
• The Last Pomegranate Tree — Bakhtyar Ali
• Almond — Won-Pyung Sohn

Each book gave us something different emotions, philosophy, culture, and new ways of thinking.

As engineering students, we believe growth isn’t only technical. Reading helps us understand people, ideas, and ourselves a little better.

Today was a great learning experience ✨
We started with HSE basics, then explored how a distillation tower works, including boilers, safety valves, salt content control, heat exchangers, and the gas flare system.
Some of our SPE officers also proudly participated in this visit.
Huge thanks to all our teachers, especially Mr. Ali, for his guidance and support, and to KAR GROUP for the amazing hospitality.
