The Chameleon Who Changed Too Much
Deep in the heart of the Emerald Forest lived a cheerful chameleon named Kito. His scales shimmered with beautiful shades of green and gold, and everyone admired his unique colors. But Kito had one weakness—he desperately wanted everyone to like him.
Whenever he met the parrots, he changed into bright red and yellow feathers to impress them.
"You look wonderful!" the parrots chirped, and Kito beamed with pride.
When he visited the monkeys, he turned brown like tree bark and copied their playful antics.
"You're just like us!" the monkeys laughed.
Among the peacocks, he displayed dazzling blues and purples. Around the rabbits, he became soft gray and spoke gently. Day after day, Kito changed himself to match the wishes and tastes of every creature he met.
At first, everyone praised him, and Kito was delighted. But soon, the animals became confused. The parrots thought he loved singing. The monkeys expected him to climb all day. The peacocks wanted him to show off his colors, while the rabbits expected him to be quiet and timid.
Trying to satisfy everyone, Kito became exhausted. He no longer remembered which colors were truly his own.
One morning, Kito looked into the still waters of a pond and gasped. His scales had become dull and patchy. For the first time in his life, he could not remember what he really looked like.
Heartbroken, he wandered alone until he met Old Tortoise, the wisest creature in the forest.
"Why do you weep, young one?" asked the tortoise.
"I have spent so much time becoming what others wanted that I no longer know who I am," Kito replied.
The old tortoise smiled kindly.
"The Creator gave every creature its own beauty. A flower does not become a bird to gain admiration, nor does a river try to become a mountain. Those who love you only when you pretend do not truly know you."
Kito thought deeply about those words.
From that day, he stopped changing to please everyone. He still used his gift when necessary, but he no longer hid his true colors. Slowly, the rich green and gold returned to his scales.
Some animals drifted away because Kito no longer behaved exactly as they wished. But many others remained, appreciating him for who he truly was.
And as the seasons passed, Kito discovered something wonderful:
It was far better to be loved for who he really was than to be admired for someone he was pretending to be.
Moral Lesson
Trying to please everyone can make you lose your identity. Stay true to your values and character, because genuine acceptance comes from being yourself, not from constantly changing to satisfy others.
