Abstract
In this project, an electric steam generator was manufactured. It was made of carbon steel (ST 37) with a volume of (90 liters) and a wall thickness of (10 mm). This steam generator operates on electric power of (12 kW) and a maximum operating pressure of (8 bar) where the water inside the vessel is heated by the electric heaters. The steam pressure is controlled by aset of control devices, including the pressure switch used as a pressure sensor. When the steam pressure reaches the desired pressure, the pressure switch cuts of the electric current to deactivate the heaters. In addition, a safety valve was also installed to relieve excess pressure and prevent possible explosion of the boiler. When the steam pressure is higher than the operating pressure, the safety valve releases the steam to reduce the pressure and return it to the desired pressure. The maximum allowable operating pressure was calculated and it equals to (28 bar). Also, the minimum allowable thickness wall vessel was calculated at operating pressure of (8 bar) and it equals to (1.5 mm), the mass flow rate of steam was calculated by dividing the amount of heat added to the enthalpy difference between saturated steam and saturated water at operating pressure of (8 bar) and it equals to (0.01 kg/s). The electric circuit is connected to the boiler and it filled with (60 litters) of water and then the boiler has been operated at a pressure of (1.5 bar), the output saturated steam pressure was measured using a bourdon gauge of (0 to 16 bar). A graph was drawn showing the increase of boiler output pressure during the time of operation
