AUIS and Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement have signed an MoU to advance joint research on climate change, conflict, and displacement. The agreement will strengthen ongoing work by IRIS and Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health on “The Nexus of Climate Change, Conflict, Displacement, and Health: Internal Displacement in Iraq.”

On October 14, 2025, IRIS hosted a roundtable discussion entitled ‘’The United States and The Middle East in a Changing International Order" for Mr. Sarhang Hamasaeed, Former Director of the Middle East Programs at The United States Institute of Peace.

The event brought together The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani faculty and undergraduate students majoring in International Relations and International Studies to be part of the discussion regarding the challenges the MENA area is facing in this current diplomatic uncertainty and the role of the United States. Participants discussed potential political outcomes in the region depending on the actions of the United States.

تعاون علمي بين معهد الدراسات الإقليمية والدولية في الجامعة الأميركية في السليمانية ووزارة الهجرة والمهجرين.

حيث أتفق الجانبان على إعداد إطار تعاون يتضمن تنفيذ دراسات وبحوث مشتركة حول الهجرة الخارجية والتصحر والجفاف وتأثيراتهما الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، تمهيداً للبدء بسلسلة من البحوث الأكاديمية والعلمية وإيجاد حلول واقعية للحد من التداعيات السلبية لهذه التحديات.

تعاون علمي مرتقب بين وزارة الهجرة والجامعة الأميركية في العراق / السليمانية لدراسة الهجرة والتغير المناخي


استقبلت وزيرة الهجرة والمهجرين السيدة إيڨان فائق جابرو، اليوم، وفداً من الجامعة الأميركية في العراق/ السليمانية بمقر الوزارة وسط بغداد، لبحث أطر التعاون المشترك بين الجانبين في المجالات البحثية والعلمية.

وجرى خلال اللقاء، الاتفاق على إعداد إطار تعاون مشترك من المؤمل توقيعه خلال الأيام المقبلة، يتضمن تنفيذ بحوث ودراسات علمية تتعلق بملف الهجرة الخارجية، إلى جانب ظاهرتي التصحر والجفاف وتأثيراتهما الاجتماعية والاقتصادية.

وأكدت الوزيرة خلال اللقاء، أهمية توحيد الجهود الأكاديمية والحكومية في معالجة الملفات الإنسانية والبيئية، مشيرةً إلى أن التعاون مع المؤسسات التعليمية الرصينة يسهم في وضع حلول مستدامة تستند إلى نتائج علمية دقيقة.

The Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) launched the second and final workshop of the Iraq Leadership Fellows (ILF) 2025. Entitled “Leadership as Practice,” the workshop opened with a joint session that brought together both ILF tracks — Social Activist and Political Candidate. The session was led by IRIS Senior Fellow Dr. Sameh Al-Muqdadi, who guided participants through an insightful discussion on Negotiation Skills.
Following this, the ILF Capacity Building Team — Mohammed Al-Moumin and Zainab Qasim delivered engaging sessions on Conflict Management and Public Presentation Skills.

نظّم معهد الدراسات الإقليمية والدولية (آيرس) الورشة التدريبية الثانية (الختامية) من زمالة قادة العراق ٢٠٢٥. بعنوان “القيادة كممارسة،” افتتحت الورشة بجلسة مشتركة بين المسارين - الناشط الاجتماعي و المرشح السياسي. قادها الزميل الأقدم في المعهد، د. سامح المقدادي، الذي وجّه المشاركين في نقاش ثري حول مهارات التفاوض.
وقدّم فيها فريق بناء القدرات: محمد المؤمن وزينب قاسم، تدريباتٍ تفاعلية في إدارة النزاعات و مهارات التحدث الى الجمهور.
