What are phrasal verbs?
Phrasal verbs are phrases that indicate actions. They are generally used in spoken English and informal texts. Examples of such verbs include: turn down, come across and run into.

phrasal verb چیە
ئەو دەستەواژانەن کە ڕودانی کارێک دەردەخەن ، و زیاتر لە زمانی قسەکردندا بەکار دێن یان لە نوسینێکی نا فەڕمیدا . وەکو ئەم نمونانە : turn down هەڵدەگێڕێتەوە یان شەرمەزارکردن come accross واتا توشبوون یان ڕودان و زۆرێک مانای تر کە بە پێی ڕستەکەدا ئەگۆڕێ
Phrasal verbs consist of a verb and a preposition or an adverb:

کە پێک هاتون لە کردارێک و ئامرازێکی پەیوەندی یان هاوەڵکارێک

get up هەستان
write down نوسین

When added to the verb the preposition or adverb may change completely the meaning of the verb. Here are some examples:
کاتێک ئامرازێک یان هاوەڵکارێک زیاد ئەکەی بۆ کردارێک ئەوا کردارەکە بە تەواوی ماناکەی ئەگۆڕێ

look for / واتە گەڕان
seek He is looking for his keys
ئەو بۆ کلیلەکانی ئەگەڕێ

The meaning of phrasal verbs
Sometimes, it is difficult to understand the meaning of phrasal verbs. Before looking them up in a dictionary, it would be helpful to use the context to understand them.
هەندێ جار زانینی مانای ئەو وشە لێکدراوانە قورسە و ناتوانرێ بە ئاسانی لێیان تێبگەین ، بەڵام زۆرکات بەهۆی ڕستەکەوە دەتوانی ماناکەی بزانی بێ ئەوەی لە قاموس بۆی بگەڕێین .
Literal meaning
Some phrasal verbs have a literal meaning. They can be easily understood.
مانای بنچینەیی ، هەندێ لەو دەستەواژانە مانایەکی تریان لە پشتەوە نیە ، تێگەشتن لە ماناکەی ئاسانە
She opened the door and looked outside.
ئەو کچە دەرگاکەی کردەوە و سەیری دەرەوەی کرد
Idiomatic meaning
Phrasal verbs can also have a figurative or idiomatic meaning which makes them difficult to understand.
مانای زاراوەی
فڕەیزاڵ ڤێربەکان هەندێک کات مانای جیاوازیان هەیە جیاواز لە مانا ڕوکاریەکەی مانای ئەدەبیان هەیە کە ئەمەش وا دەکات ئاسان نەبێ بۆ تێگەشتن لێیان
Can you put me up for tonight?
دەتوانی ئەمشەو ڕێگە بدەی لە ماڵەکەت بمێنمەوە
put up has an idiomatic/figurative meaning. It means to let someone stay in your house.
لێرەدا put up بە واتای (ڕێگە دان بە کەسێک کە لە ماڵەکەت بمێنێتەوە) دێ و واتا وشەی put مانای دانانی هەیە بەڵام چونکە ئامرازێکی شوێنی لەگەڵ هاتوە ماناکەی گۆڕاوە
Separable or inseparable?
ئایا ئەو دەستەواژانە بە جیاش دێن یان دایمە بەدوای یەکدا دێن ؟
Sometimes, it can be separable it depends on the phrasal verb or the sentences
هەندێ کات و هەندێ دەستەواژە ئەتوانرێ وشەی تریان لە نێواندا بێ

Mary made up a really entertaining story.
Mary made the story up.

Examples:

She made it up.
Put it down.
Take it off.
Some phrasal verbs are always inseparable.
وە هەندێ لەو دەستەواژانە دایمە بەدوای یەکدا دێن و ناتوانرێ وشەی تر لە نێوانیان دا بێت
Example:

I came across some old photos in a drawer.
NOT

I came some old photos across in a drawer.
