Everyone talks about emotional intelligence when things are going well. But that's not when it matters most.
It matters on the days when...
• You receive feedback you weren't expecting.
• A colleague says something that stays with you all day.
• You feel overwhelmed before you've even opened your laptop.
• You don't have the energy to be your "usual self."
Those are the moments that reveal your emotional habits.
The next time you're having a hard day, pause before reacting and ask yourself:
• What am I feeling right now?
• What happened that triggered this emotion?
• What story am I telling myself about this situation?
• What do I need in this moment; rest, clarity, support, space, or reassurance?
• Am I reacting to what's happening now, or to something this situation reminds me of?
• What response will I be proud of tomorrow?
• If someone I cared about felt this way, what would I say to them?
• What's one small thing I can control in the next 10 minutes?
