Skill Development Institute (SDI), Visakhapatnam successfully conducted a One-Day Entrepreneur Awareness Program (EAP) for degree-completed female students from various colleges, as part of the initiatives guided by the Ministry of MSME. The programme provided comprehensive insights into government schemes, eligibility criteria, benefits and the process to avail MSME support. The session was inaugurated by Mr. Vijayanand Reddy, Director, MSME, Visakhapatnam, who elaborated on the various schemes and support systems available for aspiring women entrepreneurs. The day featured highly informative sessions on starting and managing small-scale industries, along with a powerful motivational talk on developing an entrepreneurial mindset. The participants expressed great satisfaction, stating that the programme inspired them to envision themselves as future small-scale industrialists and appreciated SDI for organising such a meaningful initiative.

He also delivered an insightful session on Drug Abuse Awareness, sensitising students on the harmful effects of substance abuse and advising them to stay focused on building a safe, healthy and successful future. The visit was truly inspiring and left a strong message of responsibility and positivity among the trainees.

Skill Development Institute (SDI), Visakhapatnam, in association with the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), successfully hosted a full-day HR Seminar on the theme “Reskilling the Future for Happy Work Life.” The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from HR professionals representing diverse industries and corporate organisations, who benefited from insightful sessions delivered by eminent speakers on evolving HR policies, workplace practices and future-ready methodologies. The seminar was formally inaugurated by Mr. K.V.V.Y.S.Narayana, Plant HR Head, Coromandel International Limited, in the presence of Mr. P. Vijay Kumar, CEO & Secretary, SDI, as Guest of Honour. The event featured highly interactive discussions, active audience engagement and knowledge-sharing throughout the day, concluding with excellent feedback from participants, reflecting the relevance and impact of the seminar.

Skill Development Institute (SDI), Visakhapatnam had the privilege of hosting Shri Yunus Sayed, Managing Director, Precision Engineering Group, Kuwait, during his recent visit to the institute. As SDI offers industry-oriented training in key trades such as Industrial Fitter, Electrician and Industrial Welding with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, the visit aimed at understanding the training ecosystem and exploring avenues for skilled manpower recruitment. Shri P. Vijay Kumar, CEO & Secretary, SDI, personally interacted with the visiting delegation and guided them through the campus, showcasing the classrooms, hybrid labs and advanced practical training facilities. The team also interacted with trainees and appreciated the structured, hands-on approach adopted by SDI in preparing industry-ready skilled professionals. Shri Yunus Sayed expressed his admiration for the impactful work being carried out by SDI in transforming young lives through skill development and conveyed keen interest in sourcing skilled manpower from SDI to meet the requirements of Precision Engineering Group, Kuwait.

We were honoured to host a distinguished Journalists–Press Meet from Uttarakhand at SDI Visakhapatnam on 12-02-2026, accompanied by officials from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Dehradun. The visiting delegation comprising Bureau Heads, Senior Journalists and Editors from leading print and media houses of Uttarakhand interacted closely with our trainees, faculty and SDI management to understand the skilling and employability initiatives being implemented at SDI.

Shri P. Vijay Kumar, CEO & Secretary, SDI, formally welcomed the media delegation and presented a comprehensive overview of SDI’s mission, achievements and impact. During the visit, the media teams conducted detailed interviews with trainees and trainers and witnessed first-hand the transformational outcomes being created through HPCL’s CSR-supported skill development programmes. The visiting journalists expressed their deep appreciation for the meaningful and noble work being carried out by HPCL at SDI and conveyed their strong desire to see SDI expand its reach beyond local regions to serve youth across multiple states in India, further strengthening the national skilling ecosystem.

SDI Visakhapatnam successfully conducted a focused three-day training programme on 5S and Implementation Audit for Supervisors and Officers of the Naval Dockyard, as part of its flagship corporate and industry-oriented training initiatives. Under its corporate skilling vertical, SDI regularly delivers customised and tailor-made programmes for industries across key domains such as Managerial and Behavioural Skills, Safety, Advanced Excel, 5S, TQM, Six Sigma and Project Management preparedness, led by highly accomplished industry practitioners with over 30 years of hands-on experience. The programme was formally inaugurated by Shri P. Vijay Kumar, CEO & Secretary, SDI, in the esteemed presence of the Chief Guest Shri Rajesh K. Sharma, Lieutenant Commander, Naval Dockyard. The participants engaged enthusiastically throughout the three days through highly interactive sessions, practical exercises, games and activity-based learning aligned to real workplace challenges. The programme concluded with excellent feedback during the valedictory session, reinforcing SDI’s commitment not only to providing free skilling for under-privileged youth, but also to continuously strengthening industrial and organisational capabilities through high-impact upskilling programmes.

Proud moments for SDI as our trainees actively participated in SAKSHAM – Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight (1st–15th February), organised by Visakha L***s Regional Office of HPCL with the powerful motto “Conserve Oil & Gas, Go Green.” As a voluntary initiative, SDI students joined a vibrant awareness cycling rally, displaying impactful placards such as “Save Today, Use Tomorrow,” “Every Drop Counts – Use Oil Wisely,” and “Save Oil for Future Generations,” spreading a strong message on responsible and sustainable use of petroleum products for the benefit of generations to come. The event was graced by the Chief General Manager – HP, Visakha Refinery, Chief Regional Manager – Visakha L***s RO and Senior Manager – Skill Development Institute. Adding special energy to the drive, children participated enthusiastically as the next generation conservation promoters and were delighted with small gifts and big smiles. The inspiring event concluded after a 6-km cycling rally along the beautiful beach road of Visakhapatnam, leaving behind a strong wave of green awareness and civic responsibility.

SDI Visakhapatnam successfully hosted a high-impact National Seminar/Workshop on Export Promotion and MSME Schemes, organised by MSME‑DFO, Ministry of MSME, Visakhapatnam in association with Skill Development Institute (SDI), Visakhapatnam and Women Entrepreneurs Society – VASSIWA. The programme was inaugurated by M. Srinivas, IRS, Commissioner, SCZ Duvvada, and M. Vinay, IRS, Deputy Commissioner, who encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage national export platforms for global growth. Expert sessions on the Export Promotion framework, marine products, agriculture and processed food exports, and export inspection guidelines provided clear, practical direction to aspiring and existing exporters. Participants actively engaged with domain specialists, clarified real-time operational challenges, and gained actionable insights to strengthen compliance, market access and international competitiveness—making the workshop a powerful step towards building a confident, export-ready MSME ecosystem in the region.

Vijay Kumar, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and unfurled the National Flag. In his inspiring address, he beautifully recalled the immense struggles and sacrifices of our freedom fighters who laid down their lives for our motherland, and motivated our students to lead their lives with clear goals, discipline, integrity and a strong sense of social responsibility for the progress of both the individual and the nation. The celebration was further enriched by soulful patriotic songs performed by SDI students and an impressive parade and drill demonstration by our Fire & Safety team, showcasing true dedication, coordination and national pride.
