Krittika - Astronomy Club of IIT Bombay Krittika is a club which promotes amateur astronomy in the institute.

If you have ever been curious about the stars in the sky; if you have ever wondered how we know so much about the Universe from seeing so little of it; if you have ever wanted to see for yourself the wonders of the night sky, then this is the place for you. Hello, everyone!

Krittika is back with another fascinating talk by Professor Varun Bhalerao on the proposed satellite, Daksha.

Daksha is a proposed space mission dedicated to detecting high-energy counterparts of gravitational wave sources. It involves the development of two space telescopes designed to observe explosive astrophysical events, such as gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational wave detections. These observations will offer valuable insights into some of the most energetic phenomena in the universe.
The talk will cover more insights into the mission you don't want to miss out on!

Krittika started the new year delightfully with a trip to Bhandardara for the annual Quadrantids meteor shower. The journey to the destination, lasting around five hours, was filled with lively music. Reaching the camping site involved a peaceful boat ride across serene waters.

With the sky measuring 4 on the Bortle scale, it was truly a sight to behold. Lying under the starry sky, we stayed awake to spot meteors streaking across the heavens. The night came alive with endless chatter around the bonfire and shared laughter. Every moment of this unforgettable experience had its own charm and significance.

It is characterized by its well-defined arms, which are rich in young & hot stars, glowing hydrogen regions, and intricate dust lanes. With a diameter of nearly 170,000 light-years, it is larger than the Milky Way and teems with star-forming activity.
