A CLOSED ISSUE NEEDS EVIDENCE β NOT JUST A STATUS CHANGE
Changing an issue from βOpenβ to βClosedβ does not prove that the problem has actually been resolved.
A reliable BIM coordination / QA/QC process should demonstrate:
β
What was the original issue?
β
Who was responsible?
β
What corrective action was taken?
β
Was the model or information updated?
β
Was the correction re-checked?
β
Does it now meet the requirement?
β
Is there evidence supporting closure?
A stronger workflow is:
ISSUE β ASSIGN β CORRECT β EVIDENCE β VERIFY β ACCEPT β CLOSE
Useful closure evidence may include:
Model view / screenshot β’ revised information container β’ issue reference β’ revision/status β’ checker comments β’ verification result
The principle is simple:
STATUS β EVIDENCE
An issue is not truly closed because someone clicked βClose.β
It should be closed because the agreed correction has been implemented, verified and accepted.
π ISO 19650 CONTEXT
ISO 19650-4:2022 defines detailed processes and decision criteria for information exchanges, with the objective of assuring the quality of the resulting PIM or AIM.
The current ISO 19650-2:2018 remains published, while the developing Edition 2 strengthens review and acceptance against Level of Information Need, acceptance criteria and fitness for purpose.
π‘ KEY MESSAGE
Closing the status is administrative.
Verifying the correction is quality assurance.
NO EVIDENCE β’ NO VERIFICATION β’ NO TRUE CLOSURE
π¬ Does your coordination workflow require evidence before an issue can be closed?
