Excited to share our recent archaeological venture in the Aravallis. Archaeological investigations in this lesser-known area pushed back its antiquity to the Lower Palaeolithic times. To delve into this area, AAHRT was invited by CEDAR, an NGO, to assess the archaeological potential of this fascinating area. In December 2023 and April 2025, Drs. S. B. Ota and Niharika Srivastava conducted a detailed investigation on behalf of the Academy. The team discovered Acheulian tools, highlighting human presence during the Lower Palaeolithic period. Tools include handaxes, cleavers, various scrapers, along with a large number of flakes and cores, as debitage, suggesting that the tools were manufactured on-site by collecting locally available quartzite raw material. It establishes the Aravallis as not only an ecological and geological treasure but also a crucial window into the prehistory of North India. The terrain, with its ancient rock formations and seasonal water channels, would have provided an ideal habitat for early humans. Along with Acheulian artefacts, two Painted Rock Shelters were also revisited.
