National Workshop on Biomedical Signal Processing A 3 day National Level Workshop on Biomedical Signal Processing

National Level Workshop on Biomedical Signal Processing- Basics and Advanced is being organised by Department of Biomedical Engineering,SBST, VIT university in collaboration with Cardea labs, Delhi

This shall be a 3 day workshop consisting lectures and 'hands on' practice sessions on various signal processing techniques such as :
• Covering Basics in signal processing
• pre-processing of sign

als for feature extraction
• Advanced signal processing
• baseline wander removal
• noise removal
• Peak Detection
• PPG (Photolithography ) Filtering
• EMG (Electromyogram) Signal Processing

We would like to take the opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to Mr. Abhinav and his entire team from Cardea Labs for having given us three priceless days, full of knowledge, excitement and a lot of creative thinking. The last three days have been immensely beneficial for all those attending the workshop and on their behalf we thank them with all our hearts. We are deeply indebted to them for pulling off such a great workshop despite such short notice.
We would also like to express our gratitude towards the dean of SBST Dr.C. Ramalingam, Dr. Bhaskar Murari the Divisional Leader of the Deptt. of biomedical engineering, and Prof. Vidhya S.and Prof. Preethika Britto. This workshop would not have been possible without their support, advice and valuable experience.
Finally a very big thank you to each and every one of you for making this workshop even more special. Your presence and level of participation though the complete duration of the workshop is worthy of appreciation. The volunteers, who provided us with immense amount of help in putting things together. Looking forward to having you guys on board for all further events of the same magnitude.

Brandon Felkins an energetic and inspiring entrepreneur in the field of Biomedical engineering will be joining us via teleconferencing during the workshop, courtesy Cardea Labs.
Brandon is currently serving as Chief Operating Officer at Ocular Dynamics, a biodesign spin-out which he co-founded in 2011. Ocular Dynamics is now a venture backed startup focused on developing the next generation contact lens technologies and is based in Menlo Park, Ca.

We are looking forward to hear from him during the workshop and deliver a lecture via teleconferencing.

Here is a short bio of our esteemed speaker :
Brandon Felkins was born and raised in Ventura, California. While pursuing a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he first learned about the medical device industry during an internship with Abbott Vascular, working with self-expanding peripheral stents.
After completing his degree, he moved to San Diego and took a position as an R&D engineer at REVA Medical where he worked within a team to develop a bio-resorbable drug eluting coronary stent. After two years at REVA, Brandon moved up to Bay Area and took a Product Development position at TDC Medical, a newly formed service provider to the medical device industry focused on the early stage development of novel medical devices.
During his time at TDC Medical, Brandon has provided technical and engineering support to numerous companies in multiple clinical areas including cardiology, spine, orthopedics, neurology, and endoscopy. He has led teams of engineers, designers and technicians to drive development of novel and unique medical devices including several interventional cardiology device delivery systems and endoscopic instruments for emerging procedures.
The opportunity to have worked with so many diverse and novel products fueled Brandon’s entrepreneurial spirit and in 2010 Brandon left TDC to join the Biodesign Innovation Fellowoship at Stanford, where he spent the next 10 months focusing on medical device innovation in the field of Ophthalmology.

Dr Avijit Bansal, an awesome and successful entrepreneur in the field of Biomedical engineering will be joining us via teleconferencing during the workshop, courtesy Cardea Labs.
He is the co-founder of Windmill Health, a startup. Apart from Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation (through the IKP-GCE program), Windmill’s work has been funded by US-India Sc. and Tech. Endowment Fund, Villgro
and other reputed agencies.


He will be talking about his innovative life saving product during the session and will tell us about the great opportunities that we as biomedical engineers must avail.

We are honored and excited to have him on board for this workshop and looking forward to a great session with him.

Here is his brief profile:
Dr Avijit Bansal is a pulmonary physician by training.
After a brief stint at Fortis Hospitals in Noida, Dr Avijit joined the Stanford India Biodesign Fellowship in 2011.
At the program, along with Ayesha Chaudhary, other fellows and faculty, Avijit co-invented a novel, integrated , easy-to-use solution to empower frontline workers in resource-constrained settings (NeoBreatheTM).
Dr Avijit is co-founder of Windmill Health, a startup that is currently developing the invention further. Apart from Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation (through the IKP-GCE program), Windmill’s work has been funded by US-India Sc. and Tech. Endowment Fund, Villgro
and other reputed agencies. Prior to this Avijit founded and NGO called PAHAL and worked with HITLAB, a New York based
health tech organization.

Due to special request by so many students, there will be a session dedicated on Image Processing by Dr. Sairam Geethanath who is a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from University of Texas, Arlington & University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and is currently the Head of the Dept, Biomedical Engineering and the Head of the Medical Imaging Research Center at Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore.
