TheĀ cl****isĀ is a femaleĀ sex organĀ present inĀ mammals,Ā ostrichesĀ and a limited number ofĀ other animals. In humans, the visible portionĀ ā the g***sĀ ā is at the front junction of theĀ labia minoraĀ (inner lips), above the opening of theĀ urethra. Unlike theĀ p***s, the maleĀ homologueĀ (equivalent) to the cl****is, it usually does not contain theĀ distalĀ portion (or opening) of the urethra and is therefore not used for urination. The cl****is also usually lacks aĀ reproductiveĀ function. While few animals urinate through the cl****is or use it reproductively, theĀ spotted hyena, which has an especially large cl****is, urinates, mates, and gives birth via the organ. Some other mammals, such asĀ lemursĀ andĀ spider monkeys, also have a large cl****is.
TheĀ human p***sĀ is an external maleĀ intromittent organĀ that additionally serves as theĀ urinal duct. The main parts are the root (radix); the body (corpus); and theĀ epitheliumĀ of the p***s including the shaft skin and theĀ foreskinĀ (prepuce) covering theĀ g***s p***s. The body of the p***s is made up of three columns ofĀ tissue: twoĀ corpora cavernosaĀ on theĀ dorsal sideĀ andĀ corpus spongiosumĀ between them on theĀ ventral side. The human maleĀ urethraĀ passes through theĀ prostate gland, where it is joined by theĀ ejaculatory duct, and then through the p***s. The urethra traverses the corpus spongiosum, and its opening, theĀ meatus, lies on the tip of the g***s p***s. It is a passage both forĀ urinationĀ andĀ ejaculationĀ ofĀ semenĀ .
