Our FYUGP Economics students, *Akhilesh A and Sandeep S R, secured the Second Prize in the Inter-Collegiate Quiz Competition* conducted as part of Nabidinam 2026, organised by the Kaduvayil Thangal Charitable Trust (KTCT). The competition was held on 17 August 2026 at 2:00 PM at Kaduvayil Juma Masjid.

As part of the multidisciplinary Bridge Course for FYUGP History students, the Department of History, in association with IQAC, organized a session on “Astronomy in Ancient Times” by Dr. Raji R., Assistant Professor, Department of Physics. The session was held on 17 August 2026 at 10:45 AM, and the venue was shifted to Room 49.

The Independence Day Quiz on “India’s Freedom Struggle and Independence” was organised by the Department of History, Civil Service Club and IQAC, Sree Narayana College, Sivagiri, Varkala, on 15 August 2026 at 8 PM through Google Forms.

The quiz received an enthusiastic response, with 79 participants. Sreedev S. R. (I BSc Botany) secured the first position, while Akshara S Lal (I BA Economics), Alakananda S (III BA History), Ally Nair A (III BSc Chemistry) and others shared the second position.

The programme successfully encouraged students to engage with India’s freedom struggle and strengthened their awareness of the nation’s history and heritage.

80th Independence Day Celebration

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Sree Narayana College, Sivagiri, Varkala, on 15 August 2026. The programme was organised in association with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS).

The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by the flag hoisting ceremony by Sri. Aji S. R. M( SN Trust Executive Member).The Independence Day message was delivered by the distinguished guests and faculty members. The celebration also featured the National Anthem and an NCC parade, reflecting the spirit of patriotism, discipline and national unity.

The programme conveyed the message of unity in diversity, patriotism and responsible citizenship, inspiring students to uphold the values of freedom and contribute positively to the nation.

Shakthi – Women’s Self-Defence & Safety Training Programme

The Women’s Cell, Women’s Study Unit and IQAC of Sree Narayana College, Sivagiri, Varkala, in association with the NSS Unit (KL 07 16 A & B), organized “Shakthi – Women’s Self-Defence & Safety Training Programme” on 14 August 2026 at the College Auditorium.

The programme aimed to create awareness among women students about personal safety and to equip them with basic self-defence skills and confidence to respond effectively to potentially unsafe situations.

Mrs. Bijilekha V., Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, Women Cell, TVM Rural, and Mrs. Anumohan, Civil Police Officer, Women Cell, TVM Rural, served as the Guests of Honour and shared valuable guidance and practical insights on women’s safety and self-defence.

The programme provided an informative and empowering experience for the participants, emphasizing the importance of awareness, preparedness, confidence and personal security. The initiative successfully conveyed the message “Empowered Women, Safe Women, Stronger Society.”

The Post Graduate Department of Physics, Science Club and IQAC of Sree Narayana College, Sivagiri, Varkala, in association with ISRO, organized a series of programmes to commemorate National Space Day 2026. The celebrations were held under the theme “Chandrayaan: Exploring the Lunar Frontier”, highlighting India’s achievements in space exploration and the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

The programmes aimed to inspire students to explore STEM fields, develop scientific curiosity, and showcase their talents through various academic and creative activities.

The Department of History, in association with the Department of Chemistry and IQAC, organized “From History to Science: An Experimental Chemistry Lab Visit by History Students.” The programme provided History students with an opportunity to explore the Chemistry laboratory, observe scientific experiments and equipment, and gain practical exposure to the applications of chemistry. The visit encouraged interdisciplinary learning and helped students connect historical knowledge with scientific perspectives.

Bridge Course – Chemistry
As part of the multidisciplinary Bridge Course “History and Beyond: A Multidisciplinary Bridge Course for FYUGP History Students (2026),” the Department of History, in association with IQAC, organized a session on “Chemistry in Daily Life: From Ancient Civilizations to Modern Society.” The session introduced students to the historical development and everyday applications of chemistry, highlighting the connections between science, society and human civilization.

Library Visit and Orientation on Effective Use of Library Resources was organised as part of the History and Beyond: A Multidisciplinary Bridge Course for FYUGP History Students (2026) on 11 August 2026 at 1.45 PM. The session was led by Arya P. S., UGC Librarian, and introduced students to the effective use of library resources, academic reading and research materials. The programme helped students develop essential skills for independent learning and historical research.

Echoes of August was organised by the Department of History and Human Rights Forum 2026–27 in association with IQAC on 10 August 2026 at 1.30 PM in Room No. 49. The programme commemorated Hiroshima Day, Nagasaki Day, Quit India Day and Independence Day through video screening, candle-light tribute and patriotic songs. The programme aimed to promote awareness of peace, freedom, patriotism and the historical significance of these events among students.
