A Proud Moment for Our School and the Institute.

A team from Dr-Pranjal Chandra, PhD, FNASc, FNA(As.), FRSB (London), FICS's Lab School of Biochemical Engineering IIT BHU Varanasi have secured the First Prize (awarded a cash prize of ₹5 lakh along with the Winner’s Shield) at the prestigious Inter-IIT Undergraduate Innovation Meet-RISE@IITs 2026, hosted at IIT Hyderabad for “Handheld Micro-Imaging Device.”

The winning team, Arkya Jyoti Ghosh and Supratim Mahapatra from Dr. Pranjal Chandra, PhD, FNASc, FNA(As.), FRSB (London), FICS's Lab, who presented the developed Technology (Filed) at the Inter-IIT Undergraduate Innovation Meet – RISE@IITs 2026 at IIT HYDERABAD, bringing laurels for the School and IIT(BHU) as a whole.

The School of Biochemical Engineering, IIT (BHU), Varanasi in collaboration with the Bioprocessing India (BPI) Society, has concluded the 10th International Bioprocessing India Conference (BPI 2025) held from December 13–15, 2025. The conference brought top leaders from the biopharma industry, academia, and regulatory agencies together at one platform at IIT BHU to strengthen India’s biomanufacturing and healthcare ecosystem in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Dr. Sumit Kumar Singh, Chairman, BPI 2025, highlighted the importance of lab to clinic research and translational impact along with advanced innovations through industry-academia collaboration. Dr. Pranjal Chandra, Co-Chairman, BPI 2025 and Coordinator, School of Biochemical Engineering, noted that BPI 2025 reinforced bridging the gap of laboratory research to clinic in building a future-ready bioprocessing workforce.The conference also featured the inaugural Prof. K.B. Ramachandran Memorial Lecture, delivered by Prof. Guhan Jayaraman, IIT Madras, who highlighted the enduring importance of rigorous bioprocess engineering and industry-relevant research in advancing India’s bio-manufacturing capabilities.A key highlight of BPI 2025 was “Taking Indian Biopharma to the Next Level: Overcoming Roadblocks and Building Collaborative Pathways,” moderated by Dr. Arvind Srivastava (Third Arc Bio, USA). The panel featured Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi (DCGI), Dr. Sanjaya Singh (Third Arc Bio), Dr. Shilpa Gadgil (Enzene Biosciences), Dr. Narendra Chirmule (Symphony Technologies), Dr. Vibha Jawa (EpiVax), and Prof. Rahul Purwar (IIT Bombay, ImmunoACT).
The Chief Guest, Padma Shri Dr. Rajni Kant, stressed the relevance of Geographical Indications (GI) and community-owned intellectual property in ensuring that innovation remains inclusive and locally rooted. Prof. Anurag S. Rathore, Founding President of the Bioprocessing India Society, noted that sustained collaboration is critical for India’s transition to first-in-class biologics. Prof. Amit Patra, Director, IIT (BHU) Varanasi, congratulated the organizing team and participants, noting that BPI 2025 set a high benchmark for academic–industry engagement and reflected IIT (BHU)’s commitment to nationally relevant, globally competitive bioprocessing research.
