2nd October is indeed a special day for the Indians. Our country was blessed with two of the most respected and influential leaders on this day. The day certainly calls for double celebration.
Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869, and died on January 30, 1948. He was a political and spiritual leader in India and played a key role in the Indian independence movement. Gandhi developed the novel technique of non-violent agitation, which he called "Satyagraha", loosely translated as "moral domination".

He is known for his non-violent civil disobedience in India and South Africa. These included the start of the non-cooperation movement in 1922 and the Salt Satyagraha or Salt (Dandi) March starting on March 12, 1930. Through Gandhi's efforts, India finally gained its freedom on August 15, 1947. The nation mourned for him after he was assassinated on January 30, 1948. The United Nations' (UN) International Day of Non-Violence is also held on October 2 each year to coincide with Mahatma Gandhi's birthday
Gandhi Jayanti is marked by prayer services and tributes all over India, including at Gandhi's memorial Raj Ghat in New Delhi where he was cremated. Popular activities include prayer meetings, commemorative ceremonies in different cities by colleges, local government institutions and socio-political institutions. Painting and essay competitions are conducted and best awards are granted for projects in schools and the community encouraging a non-violent way of life as well as celebrating Gandhi's effort in the Indian independence movement.

Gandhi's favourite Bhajan (Hindu devotional song), Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, is usually sung in his memory. Statues of Mahatma Gandhi throughout the country are decorated with flowers and garlands, and some people avoid drinking alcohol or eating meat on the day.

Not only Gandhi Jayanti but Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti is also celebrated on this day. People do not only remember Gandhi ji and his ideologies on this day but also remember Lal Bahadur Shastri for his selfless devotion for the country and his tireless efforts to free it from the tyranny of the British government.

Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on October 2, 1904 at Mughalsarai, a small railway town seven miles from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. His father was a school teacher who died when Lal Bahadur Shastri was only a year and half old. His mother, still in her twenties, took her three children to her father’s house and settled down there.

Lal Bahadur’s small town schooling was not remarkable in any way but he had a happy enough childhood despite the poverty that dogged him.

He was sent to live with an uncle in Varanasi so that he could go to high school. Nanhe, or ‘little one’ as he was called at home, walked many miles to school without shoes, even when the streets burned in the summer’s heat.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was sixteen when Gandhiji called upon his countrymen to join the Non-Cooperation Movement. He decided at once to give up his studies in response to the Mahatma’s call. The decision shattered his mother’s hopes. The family could not dissuade him from what they thought was a disastrous course of action. But Lal Bahadur had made up his mind. All those who were close to him knew that he would never change his mind once it was made up, for behind his soft exterior was the firmness of a rock.

2 अक्टूबर वाकई भारतीयों के लिए बेहद खास दिन है। इस दिन हमारे देश को दो सबसे सम्मानित और प्रभावशाली नेताओं का आशीर्वाद मिला था। यह दिन निश्चित रूप से दोहरे उत्सव का आह्वान करता है।
महात्मा गांधी, जिन्हें मोहनदास करमचंद गांधी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, का जन्म 2 अक्टूबर, 1869 को हुआ था और उनकी मृत्यु 30 जनवरी, 1948 को हुई थी। वह भारत में एक राजनीतिक और आध्यात्मिक नेता थे और उन्होंने भारतीय स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई थी। गांधीजी ने अहिंसक आंदोलन की नवीन तकनीक विकसित की, जिसे उन्होंने "सत्याग्रह" कहा, जिसका सामान्य अनुवाद "नैतिक वर्चस्व" है।

गांधी जयंती को पूरे भारत में प्रार्थना सेवाओं और श्रद्धांजलि के साथ मनाया जाता है, जिसमें नई दिल्ली में गांधी का स्मारक राजघाट भी शामिल है, जहां उनका अंतिम संस्कार किया गया था। लोकप्रिय गतिविधियों में प्रार्थना सभाएं, कॉलेजों, स्थानीय सरकारी संस्थानों और सामाजिक-राजनीतिक संस्थानों द्वारा विभिन्न शहरों में स्मारक समारोह शामिल हैं। पेंटिंग और निबंध प्रतियोगिताएं आयोजित की जाती हैं और स्कूलों और समुदाय में अहिंसक जीवन शैली को प्रोत्साहित करने के साथ-साथ भारतीय स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में गांधी के प्रयास का जश्न मनाने वाली परियोजनाओं के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ पुरस्कार दिए जाते हैं।

गांधीजी का पसंदीदा भजन (हिंदू भक्ति गीत), रघुपति राघव राजा राम, आमतौर पर उनकी याद में गाया जाता है। पूरे देश में महात्मा गांधी की प्रतिमाओं को फूलों और मालाओं से सजाया जाता है, और कुछ लोग उस दिन शराब पीने या मांस खाने से बचते हैं।

इस दिन सिर्फ गांधी जयंती ही नहीं बल्कि लाल बहादुर शास्त्री जयंती भी मनाई जाती है। इस दिन लोग न केवल गांधी जी और उनकी विचारधाराओं को याद करते हैं बल्कि लाल बहादुर शास्त्री को देश के प्रति उनकी निस्वार्थ भक्ति और ब्रिटिश सरकार के अत्याचार से मुक्त कराने के उनके अथक प्रयासों के लिए भी याद करते हैं।

श्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री का जन्म 2 अक्टूबर, 1904 को उत्तर प्रदेश के वाराणसी से सात मील दूर एक छोटे से रेलवे शहर मुगलसराय में हुआ था। उनके पिता एक स्कूल शिक्षक थे जिनकी मृत्यु तब हो गई जब लाल बहादुर शास्त्री केवल डेढ़ वर्ष के थे। उनकी माँ, जो अभी भी बीस वर्ष की हैं, अपने तीन बच्चों को अपने पिता के घर ले गईं और वहीं बस गईं।

लाल बहादुर की छोटे शहर की स्कूली शिक्षा किसी भी तरह से उल्लेखनीय नहीं थी, लेकिन गरीबी के बावजूद उनका बचपन काफी खुशहाल था।

उन्हें वाराणसी में एक चाचा के साथ रहने के लिए भेजा गया ताकि वह हाई स्कूल जा सकें। नन्हे, या 'छोटा बच्चा', जैसा कि उसे घर पर बुलाया जाता था, बिना जूतों के कई मील पैदल चलकर स्कूल जाता था, तब भी जब सड़कें गर्मी की गर्मी में जल रही थीं।

लाल बहादुर शास्त्री सोलह वर्ष के थे जब गांधीजी ने अपने देशवासियों से असहयोग आंदोलन में शामिल होने का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने महात्मा के आह्वान के जवाब में तुरंत अपनी पढ़ाई छोड़ने का फैसला किया। इस फैसले ने उनकी मां की उम्मीदों को तोड़ दिया। परिवार उसे उस कार्रवाई से मना नहीं कर सका जो उन्होंने सोचा था कि यह एक विनाशकारी कदम था। लेकिन लाल बहादुर ने मन बना लिया था. जो लोग उनके करीब थे, वे सभी जानते थे कि एक बार तय हो जाने के बाद वह अपना मन कभी नहीं बदलेंगे, क्योंकि उनके नरम बाहरी हिस्से के पीछे चट्टान की दृढ़ता थी।

हिंदू धर्म में गंगा सप्तमी अधिक महत्व होता है। हर साल गंगा सप्तमी वैशाख माह के शुक्ल पक्ष में सप्तमी तिथि को मनाई जाती है। शास्त्रों के अनुसार इस दिन गंगा जी की उत्पत्ति हुई थी,इसलिए इसे गंगा जयंती के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। इस दिन मध्याह्न के समय मां गंगा का विशेष रूप से पूजन करने का विधान है।

Eid traditionally start with prayers then a short sermon follows. In some countries, the prayers occur outside, while others are hosted in mosques or large halls. After the prayers, Muslims wish everyone around them a Happy Eid. After that, they visit their relatives and friends to enjoy each other and have a feast
Muslims celebrate the religious festival of Eid every year. This day marks the end of Ramadan so they eat their heart out on this day. Prophet Muhammad started this tradition in Mecca first.

It is believed that the Prophet Muhammad reached Medina on this day. During Eid, people raise their spirits high and enjoy a lot. They start preparing for Eid before a month. The excitement begins at the onset of Ramadan.
