Founded in 1914 by the Royal family of Gaekwad in Baroda, Maharani Chimnabai Udyogalaya is one of the earliest women's vocational centers in the country.

SMCSU has published its Annual Report 2025–26, bringing together the work, people and partnerships that continue to move us forward.
The project pages shared here offer a closer look at our initiatives across skill development, livelihoods, craft, food, inclusion and community care.
The report also sets out a hopeful and ambitious path ahead. Guided by Vision 2030, we aim to strengthen Udyog Kutir and Tarabai Beauty Academy & Salon, grow our support for artisans, expand healthcare outreach and create more opportunities for people to learn and earn.
These plans give us much to look forward to. With the continued support of our donors, partners and community, we look ahead with confidence and a renewed commitment to turning our vision into action.

The hands behind a living legacy. ✨

At URJA 2026, we celebrated the extraordinary artisans who keep India’s craft traditions alive. Among them was Dayaben D o h a t, a National Award recipient and master practitioner of Soof embroidery, a remarkable counted-thread tradition rooted in Kutch and Banaskantha.

With every thread counted and every motif held in memory, Soof embroidery reflects generations of knowledge, patience and precision. Dayaben’s decades of practice and her commitment to passing this craft forward make her work a true testament to India’s living heritage.

We honour the hands, stories and skills that continue to carry our crafts into the future.
