Dept. of Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, KMSDCH Paediatric dentistry focuses on the oral health and unique needs of infants, children and adolescents, including children with special health care needs. K. M.

Shah Dental College started in 1999 with undergraduate course, and Dept of Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry started in 2001 expanded by post graduation course in 2006. We are the Pioneers and first to start with Dept of Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry in all over Gujarat. We focus on prevention, early detection and treatment of dental diseases, and on the latest advances in dentistry for children.We are concerned about child’s total health care. Our goal, along with our staff, is to help all children feel good about visiting the dentist and teach them how to care for their teeth. From our special office designs, to our communication style, our main concern is what is best for the child. The Paedodontics Department in conjunction with the Department of Anesthesiology has treated a large number of patients under general anesthesia who are mentally or physically handicapped and those who could not be managed with the routine chair side treatment techniques. The department has 6 postgraduate seats from current academic year. The department has been updated with latest journals and text books in the departmental library. The department is very well linked with a broadband internet. The screening and treatment camps have been conducted in and around the city of Vadodara and several schools have been adopted by the department. The camps have been conducted on a regular basis thus increasing the total number of patients in the department. Currently we are working on programme named ‘SANKALP’ which is a part of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth’s ambitious ‘NAVJEEVAN’ plan for school children’s dental health care needs.

PEDOprGyan 2026 — A day dedicated to advancing knowledge in Contemporary Pediatric Dentistry.

The program featured a series of insightful lectures and interactive sessions covering key topics such as Bioflx crowns, preformed zirconia crowns, MTA applications, Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF), and practice management, followed by an enriching hands-on session.

Healthy breakfast Competition was conducted on 29th November 2024 by the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, K.M. Shah Dental College and Hospital on account of Children’s Week Celebration in which Staff, post graduate students and undergraduate students took part.The theme of the competition was theme “HEALTHY BREAKFAST FOR CHILDREN ”. This competition helped the
participants to show their knowledge about nutrition and health. We received an overwhelming response from everyone!

Balmela 2025: Spreading Smiles & Dental Awareness!

From January 24th to 26th, our team set up a dental awareness stall at Sayaji baugh, Vadodara, as part of Balmela 2025. We had an amazing time educating over 4,000 kids from age 3 to 15 and parents about proper brushing techniques, oral hygiene, and hand hygiene.

The little ones enjoyed fun colouring activities, while our PG residents gained valuable experience in social skills and community outreach. To make it even more special, we distributed attractive gifts like pencils and crayons!

1. A three days camp is organised by Dhiraj Hospital at Vibgyor School.
Today total of 86 children aged 13 to 17 years were screened and referal was given to those who required treatment.

“Learn and Relearn – Authors and Reviewers Workshop 2024 ” was organized by the Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry and hosted jointly by Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, K M Shah Dental College and Hospital and Journal of Integrated Health Sciences, Sumandeep Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University, Vadodara, Gujarat on 9th and 10th August 2024 at Convention Centre, SVDU, Vadodara, Gujarat.
The program started with inauguration by the guest of honours Dr. Parimala Kulkarni (President ISPPD), and Dr. Harshad Shah (Honourable Chancellor, SVDU). The program was graced by various university officials to name few : Dr. Rajesh Bharaney (Hon. Vice Chancellor, SVDU); Pro VC, Dr Chandramani More; Registrar, Dr Manoj Kulkarni. Dr. RV Subramanyam (Dean, KMSDCH), Dr. Bhavna Dave (Organizing Chairperson), Dr. Anshula Deshpande (Organizing Co-chairperson) and Dr. Seema Bargale (organizing secretary) were the host for the program along with their hardworking team.
Esteemed Guest Speakers from Tamil Nadu, Mangalore, New Delhi, Bhopal came all the way to participate in the program and impart their knowledge. Around 75 Delegates all accross the country including Dean’s and HOD’s of various institutes along with ISPPD Life Members attended the workshop. It was an excellent learning experience for the delegates who attended the program.
