Guest post by Ashwin Lobo on education at GBS, after the pandemic. Ashwin was on the Apprenticeship in Ecological Nurturance programme in 2019-20 and returned to spend a month at GBS earlier this year, when Marudam School was visiting for a three week immersive programme with us.

Guest Post by Ashwin Lobo Editor's Note: Different writers bring freshness to our online public interface; a feeling of various freshwater streams mixing and mingling to form a new water body. Ashwin...

Here is a project on Crotalarias by Vedika Sanchi, a young apprentice/intern who spent two months at the Gurukula Botanical Sanctuary last winter. Instead of online education during the second wave lockdown, she took a gap year from schooling at Centre for Learning, Bangalore, and travelled to many places interning or apprenticing with different communities. We share her project write up now as an invitation to other young adults to consider coming to Gurukula for short or longer residential internships. Once we hear from someone, we have a back and forth, a few emails, a couple of phone calls and a trial period, after which people can stay for longer, or not.
During this period, we encourage apprenticing with one or another of the naturalists, ecosystem gardeners, forest and river protectors, writers and educators, cooks and food growers among us. With all interns we encourage journal writing, and keeping reflective accounts of their stay with us, partly to contribute to a rich and diverse narrative of the forest and plants and animals and the community (to be kept for posterity in our archive)and partly as a good thing in itself. Do read Vedika's lovely write up and share!

Announcement: the Apprenticeship in Ecological Nurturance will run again in 2020. Dates and schedule and content to be released as soon as we review the first round.

In the meantime please read the brochure on this page that we prepared for last year's launch of the programme, since the basic scope and contents would remain essentially the same.

Should you be interested in pursuing a potential application, you could already write a note to us explaining a little about yourself and your interest for such learning as proposed by the A.E.N. Please send the email to [email protected].

If we proceed with the application procedure, we would then ask you to answer some specific questions through an online form.

More soon then and best greetings for now,

the AEN team.
