*Anmol Sharma Secures 3rd Position at National-Level Speech Competition*

On the occasion of National Youth Day, the National Youth Festival – Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2026 was held from 9th to 12th January 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, under the aegis of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Anmol Sharma, a student of Government College Una, represented Himachal Pradesh in the Speech Competition and secured Third Position at the national level among nearly 5,000 participants from across the country.
Anmol expressed that bringing recognition to Himachal Pradesh on a national platform was a moment of immense pride for him. He thanked his mother, teachers, and friends for their constant guidance and support. He was felicitated by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya Ji, and the Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Sports, Smt. Raksha Khadse Ji.

*Government College Una Rover–Rangers Participate in State-Level Pre-Republic Day Camp*
The Rover–Ranger Unit of Government Excellence College, Una, actively participated in the State-Level Pre-Republic Day Camp. A total of 12 Rovers and Rangers from the college took part in this camp, which was organized at the State Training Centre, Rewalsar, as part of the selection process for the State-Level Republic Day Parade to be held in Shimla.
During the camp, participants received training in march past, drill, and various aspects of scouting. The participating students included Rovers Gaurav, Sonu, Shahbaz, Krish, Tinku, Lalit, Krish Patial, and Rangers Tamanna, Kajal, Vanshika, Gurvinder, and Aarish. Students who qualify in this selection process will get the opportunity to participate in the State-Level Republic Day Parade in Shimla.
Sharing information about the camp, Rover Scout Leader Dr. Sham Singh Bains stated that such camps play a significant role in the overall personality development of students and help inculcate discipline and leadership qualities. Principal Dr. Meeta Sharma congratulated all the participating students, appreciated their efforts, and wished them a bright future.
It is noteworthy that the State-Level Pre-Republic Day Camp was held from 26 December to 30 December 2025 at the State Training Centre, Rewalsar.

*55th Annual Athletics Meet Concludes Successfully at Government College, Una*
The 55th Annual Athletics Meet of Government College, Una was organised with great enthusiasm. The event was graced by the Vice Principal of Government College, Khad, Dr. Ravi Raj, as the Chief Guest. College Principal Dr. Meeta Sharma welcomed him by presenting a shawl and cap.
Addressing the students, Dr. Ravi Raj highlighted the importance of sports in life and encouraged students to actively participate in games along with academics, emphasizing their role in physical and mental development. Principal Dr. Meeta Sharma also stressed that discipline is the foremost priority for sportspersons and that sports contribute to overall personality and social development.
A series of track and field events were conducted, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m races, along with Shot Put, Javelin Throw, Discus Throw, Long Jump and High Jump for both boys and girls. Students displayed remarkable enthusiasm, sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the meet.
In the concluding ceremony, Competition Secretary Dr. Vipul Gautam expressed gratitude to all faculty members, non-teaching staff and students for their active participation and cooperation.
The event witnessed the presence of the entire teaching and non-teaching staff along with a large number of students, making the athletics meet a grand success.

*National Mathematics Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm at Government Centre of Excellence College, Una*
National Mathematics Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour at Government Centre of Excellence College, Una on 22 December 2025. The Principal of the college, Dr. Meeta Sharma, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and encouraged students through her presence.
The programme commenced with a formal welcome of all dignitaries by Dr. Ranju Banota, Coordinator of the Mathematics Society. This was followed by a presentation competition on mathematics, in which 15 students presented their views on various important mathematical topics in an impressive and informative manner. In addition, students also presented an engaging skit based on the theme of mathematics, which was highly appreciated by the audience.
In the presentation competition, Shivam secured the first position, Prachi won the second position, and Sarvjeet stood third. Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Dr. Meeta Sharma highlighted the importance of mathematics in academics as well as in daily life and motivated students to actively participate in such educational and creative activities.
The competition was evaluated with great care and impartiality by the panel of judges comprising Dr. Madan, Dr. Promila, and Dr. Sham Singh. Several faculty members were present on the occasion, including Prof. Puneet Kanwar, Dr. Suresh Kumar, Dr. Sanjay Verma, Prof. Shashi Kanwar, Dr. Monika Thakur, Dr. Shreyasi, along with faculty members from the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Monika Khanna and Dr. Jagmohan.
Approximately 120 students participated enthusiastically in the programme and contributed to its grand success.

*Voter Awareness Programme Organised by Electoral Literacy Club at Government College, Una*
The Electoral Literacy Club of Government College, Una organised a Voter Awareness Programme for students of various departments of the college on 20 December 2025. The Electoral Literacy Club has been consistently conducting such activities for the benefit of all students of the college.
During the programme, students—especially new voters—were informed about the application process for registration as new voters. The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness about the importance of elections in a democratic system and to encourage informed and responsible participation in the electoral process.
Several activities were organised to sensitise students about the significance of voting in a democracy. Students actively participated in poster-making activities and a speech competition on the importance of voting, demonstrating keen interest and enthusiasm throughout the programme.
The Department of Political Science, Government College, Una, provided active support to the Electoral Literacy Club in organising the event. Professor Vikas Saini delivered a guest lecture on the topic “Why Should We Vote?” and highlighted the value of every single vote and the crucial role of voting in strengthening democracy.
Dr. Madan was also present at the programme as the Nodal Officer. The entire event was conducted in accordance with the directions issued by the Election Authorities. Students participated wholeheartedly and actively engaged in all the activities organised during the programme.

*Dr. Sham Singh Bains Serves as Resource Person in State-Level Basic Teacher Training Programme*

Dr. Sham Singh Bains, Rover Scout Leader (Himalayan Wood Badge) of the Rover Ranger Unit, Government Centre of Excellence College, Una, rendered his services as a Resource Person in the State-Level Basic Teacher Training Programme organized by the Bharat Scouts and Guides at the State Training Centre, Rewalsar, District Mandi. The training programme was conducted successfully from 14 December to 19 December 2025.
During the training, Dr. Bains delivered detailed sessions on the history of scouting, team management, and various practical and experiential activities, including preparation of meals during hiking without the use of utensils. His experience-based insights and effective training methodology proved highly beneficial for the participating faculty members.
Approximately 30 professors from nearly 20 colleges across the state participated in this state-level training programme. The primary objective of the programme was to further strengthen Rover-Ranger activities in colleges and to imbibe values of leadership, service, and discipline among educators.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Meeta Sharma, congratulated Dr. Sham Singh Bains on this significant achievement, appreciated his contribution, and described it as a matter of pride and prestige for the institution.

*Road Safety Club Organizes PowerPoint Presentation Competition at Government College Una*

A PowerPoint Presentation Competition was successfully organized on December 17, 2025, under the aegis of the Road Safety Club at Government College Una. The primary objective of the competition was to enhance awareness among students about road safety and to develop their presentation and communication skills.
The programme was graced by Mr. Ashok Kumar, RTO, Una, as the Chief Guest and Key Speaker, while Dr. Sanjay Verma attended the event as the Guest of Honour. The event was organized under the guidance of the college Principal, Dr. Meeta Sharma, who has consistently encouraged student-centric and awareness-based initiatives.
The competition was coordinated by Club Convener Dr. Monika Khanna, with active support from club members Dr. Gagandeep, Mr. Karan Kumar, Dr. Monika Thakur, Dr. Shivani Bhagat, and Prof. Anu. Dr. Ruchi Sharma served as the Observer, while the Judging Panel included Dr. Shweta Sharma, Prof. Sanjay Sharma, and Prof. Yashpaul, who also provided valuable guidance to the participants.
A large number of students participated enthusiastically, and all participants were awarded certificates. In addition to the competition, students presented a street play (Nukkad Natak) on road safety, which effectively conveyed important messages related to traffic rules and responsible road behavior.
The winners were honoured with helmets as prizes, reinforcing the importance of road safety and safe driving practices. The results of the competition were as follows:

*Rovers and Rangers of Government Model College Una Participate in Disaster Management Camp at Pong Dam*

Eighteen Rovers and Rangers of the Rover–Ranger Unit of Government Model College Una successfully returned after participating in a Disaster Management Camp held at the Water Sports Training Centre, Pong Dam, District Kangra, from December 2 to December 9, 2025.
The camp witnessed participation from Rovers and Rangers of around 12 colleges across Himachal Pradesh. During the camp, students were trained in various disaster management and adventure-related activities, including swimming, rafting, and other life-saving and preparedness exercises aimed at enhancing resilience and emergency response skills.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Meeta Sharma, congratulated the Rovers and Rangers for actively participating in such meaningful and skill-enhancing activities, highlighting the importance of disaster preparedness and youth involvement in community service.
Rover Scout Leader Dr. Sham Singh Bains warmly welcomed the participants on their return and appreciated their enthusiasm and commitment.
On this occasion, it was also shared with pride that Rover Divyansh Raizada represented the college at the National Jamboree held in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), thereby bringing recognition and honour to the institution.

*HPU Inter-College Hockey Championship (Men & Women) 2025–26 Concludes Successfully at Government College Una*

The three-day HPU Inter-College Hockey Championship (Men & Women) 2025–26 concluded successfully today at Indira Stadium, Una, under the hosting of Government College Una. The final day witnessed highly competitive and thrilling matches in both men’s and women’s categories.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. Sanjay Verma, Senior professor Government College Una. Vice Principal Prof. Puneet Kanwar and other faculty members were also present to encourage the players. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Verma emphasized the importance of sports in the holistic development of students, stating that such competitions help students build confidence, discipline, and the ability to face challenges.
On the final day, four matches were played—two for third position and two finals.
In the women’s third-place match, Government College Solan defeated Government College Bilaspur by 6–1 to secure third position.
In the men’s third-place match, Government College Chamba outplayed Government College Sunni and claimed third place.
In the women’s final, Government College Paonta Sahib emerged as champions by defeating Government College Una with a score of 8–2, while the Una women’s team finished as runners-up.
In the men’s final, the host team Government College Una delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Government College Ghumarwin by a massive margin of 14–1 to clinch the championship title.
The Chief Guest distributed trophies and medals to the winning and runner-up teams and congratulated all participants for their sportsmanship and dedication.
