Successfully concluded the 4-day Annual Action Plan Workshop for KVKs conducted in hybrid mode, with participation from KVKs of Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.

The workshop provided a valuable platform for presenting and refining the Annual Action Plans for the coming year through expert guidance and constructive discussions, ensuring better alignment with the needs of the farming community.

We were honoured by the participation and guidance of Dr. H.C. Bhattacharya, Former DEE, AAU; Dr. S.K. Das, Former Head, Fishery Division, ICAR RC NEH; Dr. S. Hazarika, Former Director, ICAR RC NEH; Prof. Pranabjyoti Sarma, College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai; Dr. Pankaj Baiwas, Scientist, ICAR RC NEH; along with Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Director, ATARI, and scientists from ATARI.

A fruitful Interaction Meeting was held with, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, along with Secretaries and officials of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh on 20th May 2026 at, Umiam.

During the meeting, Shri Gabriel Denwang Wangsu interacted with scientists and officials on various issues related to agricultural development, technology dissemination, natural farming, and improving farmers’ livelihoods in Arunachal Pradesh and the North Eastern Region. The discussions also highlighted the importance of collaborative initiatives between ICAR institutes and the State Government for sustainable agricultural growth.

The programme was attended by the Director, ICAR-ATARI ZONE VII, Umiam ; Director, ICAR RC NEH Region, Umiam along with senior scientists and officials from ICAR and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

The inaugural function of the Administrative Building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra West Jaintia Hills and the NICRA Stakeholder Workshop was successfully held on 16th May 2026 in the august presence of distinguished dignitaries and stakeholders.

Sh. Sniawbhalang Dhar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister to the Govt. of Meghalaya and MLA, 1-Nartiang (ST), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The programme was attended by the Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of Meghalaya; Deputy Commissioner (DC), West Jaintia Hills; Director of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of Meghalaya; and Director, ICAR-ATARI Zone VII, along with scientists, officials, farmers, and stakeholders.

The newly inaugurated Administrative Building will strengthen the outreach and extension activities of KVK West Jaintia Hills for effective transfer of agricultural technologies and farmer-centric services in the region.

The NICRA Stakeholder Workshop highlighted climate-resilient agricultural practices and collaborative strategies for sustainable farming and livelihood security in the face of changing climatic conditions.

The event marked an important step towards strengthening agricultural development, innovation, and resilience for the farming community of Meghalaya.

Shri Timothy D. Shira, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, visited ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region to discuss strategies for agricultural promotion and development in Meghalaya.

During the visit, the Hon’ble Minister interacted with scientists and officials regarding the major challenges faced by farmers of the region and appreciated the innovative technologies and solutions developed by ICAR to address these issues. Discussions focused on sustainable agriculture, climate-resilient farming practices, improved crop production, and livelihood enhancement for farming communities.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region and Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI Zone VII in the presence of the Director of Agriculture, Government of Meghalaya, Director of Research & Training, Government of Meghalaya, Heads of KVKs, and scientists of ICAR.

The visit highlighted the collective commitment of ICAR and the Government of Meghalaya towards strengthening agricultural innovation and ensuring better support for the farmers of the region.

ICAR-ATARI Zone VII, Umiam, in collaboration with ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi, successfully organized a 3-day Capacity Building Programme on “Sustainable Dairy Farming through Advanced Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) with Superior Cattle Germplasm” sponsored by ICAR-CIRC, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The programme aimed at enhancing knowledge and skills related to sustainable dairy farming practices and advanced reproductive technologies for improving cattle productivity in the North Eastern region.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Ririti Kharbuli, District Veterinary Officer, Government of Meghalaya, elaborated on the various initiatives undertaken by the State Government to strengthen dairy development and support livestock farmers across Meghalaya.

Another Guest of Honour, Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, shared valuable insights on adopting region-specific and need-based strategies for the holistic development of the dairy sector in the North Eastern region, particularly Meghalaya.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Aijeris Chyne, Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Government of Meghalaya, appreciated the initiative taken by ICAR-ATARI Zone VII and ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi. She assured full support from the department for the successful implementation and wider outreach of such programmes across the state.

The programme witnessed active participation from stakeholders, farmers, scientists, veterinarians, and extension personnel, reflecting a collective commitment towards strengthening sustainable dairy farming in the region.

Strengthening Convergence for Agricultural Growth 🤝🌾
On 30th April 2026, during his visit to Shillong, Hon'ble Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Shri Ramnath Thakur, emphasized the need for stronger convergence between State Agriculture Departments and ICAR institutes.

He highlighted that coordinated efforts, knowledge sharing, and joint action are essential to deliver technologies to the last farmer, double farmers’ income, and build a resilient, self-reliant agri-ecosystem in Meghalaya and the Northeast.
