EMERGING LEADERS PROGRAM

In today's competitive world, academic excellence alone is not enough. Students must also develop essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and collaboration. Learning to work effectively as part of a team and being a responsible follower helps students build strong interpersonal skills. These experiences lay the foundation for becoming confident and capable leaders who can inspire and guide others in the future.

To nurture these qualities from an early age, Sharada Pre-University College has introduced a unique Emerging Leaders Program. As part of this initiative, students were trained to write nomination letters, which enhanced their writing and self-expression skills. They were also encouraged to present their ideas and appeal for support before lecturers and fellow students, helping them improve their public speaking, communication skills and overcome stage fear.

Enthusiastic students who actively participated in the program were given the opportunity to take on leadership roles such as College Pupil Leaders, Class monitors, House Captains, and College prefects. The selection process provided students with valuable real-life leadership experience, strengthened their confidence, and helped them overcome stage fear.

Through this innovative program, students not only learned the importance of teamwork and responsibility but also developed the confidence and leadership abilities needed to excel in the future. The initiative aims to shape responsible, capable, and inspiring leaders who will make meaningful contributions to society and become valuable assets to the nation.

He urged students to follow leaders who inspire service, compassion, and integrity. He also highlighted the visionary leadership of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Mother Teresa.

In her inspiring address, Guest of Honour Mrs. Prabha Kamath posed the thought intellectual question, “Who is a true leader?” and enlightened the students about the qualities of true leadership. She encouraged them to think out of the box, stating that innovation is one of the greatest qualities of leadership. Explaining why the lion is regarded as the king of the jungle, she said that it is not because of its size or strength, but because of its confidence, courage, and attitude, which make it a natural leader.

Presiding over the programme, Sri U. Vidyavantha Acharya spoke about Mahatma Gandhi's leadership in securing India's freedom. He compared leadership to birds flying in a V-formation, explaining that the bird at the front faces the strongest air resistance and leads the flock, allowing the others behind to fly effortlessly. He added that true leaders willingly face challenges first and guide others forward. He also referred to the inspiring leadership of Dr. T. M. A. Pai and Dr. Upendra Pai, encouraging students to become responsible and visionary leaders.

Ananya compered the event and vote of thanks was done by her.

He said that discipline means respecting one's own decisions and standing by them even in the face of difficulties, without breaking them even once. He added that a person who remains committed to their decisions and fulfils their responsibilities with sincerity and determination reflects true discipline.

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Arshad, and the proceedings were compered by Mrs. Yasha K. S., Chemistry Lecturer.
