Investiture Ceremony and PTA Formation Held at Sharada Pre-University College
Udupi, July 18: Sharada Pre-University College conducted its Investiture Ceremony and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Formation Programme with great enthusiasm on 18th July 2026.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Sri U. Vidyavantha Acharya, Director of the institution, Mr. Vikram Dev Prabhu, Principal of Sharada Pre-University College, Mr. Vincent D'Costa, Principal of Sharada Residential School, Professor Mrs. Prabha Kamath, Principal, Upendra Pai Memorial College, Kunjibettu and Mr. George Kurian, Principal of G.M.Vidyaniketan Public School, Brahmavara. Mr. George Kurian was the Chief Guest, while Mrs. Prabha Kamath graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
The gathering was welcomed by Zayaan, followed by the announcement of the student leaders. The newly elected leaders took the oath of office, administered by the Principal. Prateek and Hasweefa were selected as the College People Leaders (CPLs), and CPL Hasweefa delivered the acceptance speech on behalf of the student council.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr. George Kurian explained that leadership can be used either for the welfare of society or for destruction. Comparing Mahatma Gandhi and Adolf Hi**er, he said that Gandhi's inspiring leadership united the nation and played a vital role in India's freedom struggle, whereas Hi**er's leadership led to genocide, causing immense human suffering. He urged students to follow leaders who inspire service, compassion, and integrity. He also highlighted the visionary leadership of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Mother Teresa.
In her inspiring address, Guest of Honour Mrs. Prabha Kamath posed the thought intellectual question, “Who is a true leader?” and enlightened the students about the qualities of true leadership. She encouraged them to think out of the box, stating that innovation is one of the greatest qualities of leadership. Explaining why the lion is regarded as the king of the jungle, she said that it is not because of its size or strength, but because of its confidence, courage, and attitude, which make it a natural leader.
Presiding over the programme, Sri U. Vidyavantha Acharya spoke about Mahatma Gandhi's leadership in securing India's freedom. He compared leadership to birds flying in a V-formation, explaining that the bird at the front faces the strongest air resistance and leads the flock, allowing the others behind to fly effortlessly. He added that true leaders willingly face challenges first and guide others forward. He also referred to the inspiring leadership of Dr. T. M. A. Pai and Dr. Upendra Pai, encouraging students to become responsible and visionary leaders.
Ananya compered the event and vote of thanks was done by her.
Following the Investiture Ceremony, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was formally constituted. Dr. Deepak Ram Bairy was elected as the President of the PTA, and the other office bearers and committee members were also elected.
The gathering was welcomed by Ms. Spandana Maiya G., Lecturer in English. Addressing the parents, Dr. Deepak Ram Bairy, the newly elected PTA President, said that the PTA would act as a bridge between the institution and parents, keeping them informed about the activities of the college, supporting students, and helping resolve issues through mutual cooperation.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Mr. Vikram Dev Prabhu emphasized the importance of discipline. He said that discipline means respecting one's own decisions and standing by them even in the face of difficulties, without breaking them even once. He added that a person who remains committed to their decisions and fulfils their responsibilities with sincerity and determination reflects true discipline.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Arshad, and the proceedings were compered by Mrs. Yasha K. S., Chemistry Lecturer.
