MIT Manipal’s First SWAYAM MOOC Receives UGC Approval

Heartiest congratulations to Dr. K. Balakrishna, Professor and Dean, School of Civil and Chemical Engineering, on receiving UGC approval to develop and deliver a SWAYAM (MOOC) course on Environmental Monitoring and Instrumentation.

The 4-credit course, comprising 40 modules spread over 15 weeks, has been awarded a development grant of ₹13.5 lakhs by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Significantly, the proposal was among the five selected from 262 submissions received nationwide, highlighting its academic merit and national relevance.

This achievement marks a historic milestone as it will be the first-ever SWAYAM MOOC course to be developed and hosted in-house by MIT Manipal. Once the course platform is fully developed and launched, learners and students from across India and around the world will be able to enroll and benefit from this programme, expanding MIT Manipal’s global academic reach.

This landmark accomplishment is a proud moment for the entire MIT Manipal community and a testament to Dr. Balakrishna’s vision, expertise, and dedication to advancing environmental education.

MAHE–Hanze Collaboration

The collaboration between Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and Hanze University of Applied Sciences represents a significant step in strengthening international academic engagement and innovation-driven learning. Built on a shared commitment to excellence, the partnership aligns with MAHE’s vision of creating a globally connected educational ecosystem that promotes research, industry collaboration, and cross-cultural experiences.

A key component of this collaboration is a pilot initiative that enables MIT Manipal students to work on real-world innovation challenges presented by companies in the Northern Netherlands. Working with Dutch small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) helps bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application, preparing students for global careers.

The pilot initiative witnessed active participation from 19 students and 9 mentors from MIT Manipal, alongside 5 mentors from Hanze University of Applied Sciences and industry representatives. This collaborative engagement created a vibrant international learning environment where students benefited from diverse academic perspectives, industry expertise, and cross-cultural interactions while addressing real-world challenges.

The initiative enhances students’ understanding of global business practices and multicultural work environments while strengthening their critical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving skills. Looking ahead, the partnership offers exciting possibilities, including joint research projects, faculty exchanges, student mobility programs, and collaborative innovation initiatives in areas such as sustainability, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.

Together, MIT Manipal and Hanze are fostering a future of education that transcends borders and creates meaningful global impact.

From Combustion to Electric to Driverless — The Journey of Formula Manipal

MIT Manipal proudly celebrates the achievements and groundbreaking projects of our students, who continue to redefine innovation and engineering excellence on national and global platforms. One such inspiring journey is that of Formula Manipal — a story of transformation from combustion to electric and now towards autonomous mobility. The team’s evolution reflects resilience, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of engineering excellence.

The three generations of race cars — FM24 – CO1, FM25 – E27, and FM26 – E10 — represent the past, present, and future of Formula Manipal in a single frame.

FM24 – CO1 marked the culmination of the team’s combustion era, securing 4th Overall at Formula Bharat, along with 1st place in Cost & Manufacturing and 4th in Engineering Design, showcasing exceptional engineering precision and performance.

In 2025, as the global motorsport ecosystem accelerated toward sustainable mobility, Formula Manipal transitioned completely to electric vehicles. FM25 – E27 became the team’s first fully electric race car, earning 3rd Overall at Formula Bharat and winning the prestigious Best Powertrain Award. The platform now continues to advance innovation as the team’s Driverless Vehicle (DV) platform.

Continuing this remarkable legacy, FM26 – E10 marks another historic milestone. The car successfully cleared all technical inspections and competed in dynamic events at Formula Bharat, while also emerging as BPP Winners — reinforcing the team’s commitment to high-performance electric mobility and cutting-edge engineering.

Taking their vision to the international stage, FM26 – E10 will proudly represent Formula Manipal at Formula Student Portugal and Formula Student Switzerland, carrying forward the spirit of innovation, sustainability, and competitive excellence.

At MIT Manipal, student-led innovation continues to shape the future of mobility and engineering.
