Visit to Aavaran | Experiential Learning at Rockwoods High School
As part of our commitment to experiential learning, the Grade 7 students of Rockwoods High School visited the Aavaran Flagship Store & Workshop in Udaipur, gaining an enriching insight into India’s traditional textile heritage.
The visit introduced students to the art and processes behind traditional crafts such as Dabu printing, hand block printing, indigo dyeing, and natural dyeing. Through their interaction and observations at the workshop, students developed a deeper understanding of how these age-old techniques continue to be practised and presented in contemporary forms.
The students also learned about Aavaran’s efforts to preserve the traditional craft of Dabu while giving it contemporary relevance through modern designs. Their interaction highlighted the importance of supporting local artisans, preserving traditional knowledge, and creating sustainable opportunities within craft communities.
An engaging interaction with the design team further helped students understand how traditional techniques can be blended with modern silhouettes, design thinking, and branding to appeal to contemporary audiences.
The visit was an informative and inspiring experience, allowing our students to connect classroom learning with real-world craftsmanship while developing a deeper appreciation for India’s rich textile heritage.
At Rockwoods High School, we believe meaningful learning happens when students step beyond the classroom, observe, interact, and experience knowledge firsthand.
