Shaheed Diwas
In India, there are seven days declared as Martyrs' Day. They are named in honour of those who are recognised as martyrs for the nation.Martyrs' Day or Shaheed Diwas or Sarvodaya Day is celebrated in India several times a year to remember freedom fighters who laid down their lives for India to become independent from British colonisation. On the midnight of March 23, 1931, the British government hanged three sons of India - Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar. This day is celebrated to remember these great revolutionaries who sacrificed themselves for the country's independence.Bhagat Singh was an Indian revolutionary freedom fighter who was hanged to death by British colonisers at the age of 23 years. Fondly known as 'Shaheed (martyr) Bhagat Singh', he is considered a national hero of India's freedom struggle against colonial rule.Bhagat Singh was a hero of the early 20th-century Indian independence movement. He was a vocal critic of British rule in India and was involved in two high-profile attacks on British authorities—one on a local police chief and the other on the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi. He was executed for his crimes in 1931 at the age of 23. Martyrdom is a price one pays to ensure freedom for coming generations. Salute to all martyrs who ensured our freedom by sacrificing their lives!
