The Sao Chang College Students’ Union election, held from 3–12 August 2026, concluded with the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected office bearers on August 12, 2026.
The ceremony was chaired by Ms Bachu, Assistant Professor, who introduced the newly elected council. Dr Lanurenla, the Principal, congratulated the new leaders and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with sincerity, uphold college rules and regulations, and rise above tribalism to work together as one unified student community.
Ms Serila L. Sangtam, Assistant Professor, presented certificates to the outgoing office bearers in recognition of their service. Representing the outgoing council, Ms Nchembeni delivered the farewell address, while Ms Samgmailenla L, the newly elected General Secretary, spoke on behalf of the new council.
The oath of office was administered by Ms K. Chongliu, Assistant Professor, formally inducting the newly elected representatives. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Mhasiriekho Ziekhru, marking a smooth transition from the outgoing council to the new leadership.

The Cultural committee of Sao Chang College Tuensang organised a short programme to commemorate World’s Indigenous People’s day on 10th of August 2026 under the theme ‘Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well being’. The programme was chaired by Miss Vethono Medeo, Asst Professor ,Dept.of Mathematics who also pronounced the vote of thanks and encouraged the students to uphold the indigenous knowledge and practices which they learnt from their parents and elders. Miss Hotoni Yeptho,Asst Professor,Dept.of Sociology highlighted on the significance of celebrating the Indigenous People’s Day which falls on Sunday this year and emphasised on the year’s theme. She further noted that honouring indigenous midwives is an opportunity to recognise their role as knowledge holders and caregivers,and stress on how the midwives act as a bridge on the gap of scarce healthcare services in remote regions with geographical barrier and limited medical facilities . It reaffirm the enduring value of indigenous knowledge system and the practical support that the midwives uphold in safeguarding life and how they act in saving the rate of mortality of the mother and the new born babies. Documentary report on the challenges faced by the indigenous people in healthcare and education sector was also screened as part of the programme.

The Department of Botany, Sao Chang College, Tuensang, commemorated World Nature Conservation Day 2026 on July 28 and 29 under the theme “Medicinal Plant Conservation and Pharmacognosy”, with financial support from the IQAC, Sao Chang College. The programme aimed to create awareness among Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) students on the importance, benefits, and conservation of medicinal plants while fostering environmental responsibility.
The celebration began with a Medicinal Plant Plantation Drive on July 28, during which SEC students planted 21 medicinal plant species across the college campus. The activity provided practical exposure to herbal medicine conservation as students collected information on their local names, scientific names, and medicinal uses. A total of 64 students and two Assistant Professors participated in the plantation drive.
On July 29, a webinar on “Herbal Medicine Conservation and Pharmacognosy” was conducted with Dr. Ashish Kumar Tripathi, Domain Expert and Editor of the Journal of Drug Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, as the resource person. The webinar highlighted upon herbal medicine rooted in Ayurveda, Panchakarma, preparation and application of herbal medicines, major Ayurvedic herbs, scientific research & evidence, benefits and conservation of herbal medicine, risks and drug interactions, quality control and standardization, regulatory frameworks, global market opportunities, future prospects of herbal medicine, identification of medicinal plants through microscopic and fluorescence studies., etc. Dr. Tripathi concluded his lecture with the message, “Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda” (Ayurveda Every Day, In Every Home).
A total of 40 students and two faculty members attended the webinar.

Sao Chang College, Tuensang, felicitated the Nagaland University (NU) Toppers and EDC Start-up Achievers 2026 at the College Multipurpose Hall on Saturday. Smti. Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, NCS, Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, attended the programme as the Guest Speaker.
The programme was chaired by Dr. S. Arenla, Assistant Professor, and began with the College Anthem, followed by the Principal's welcome address. The Music Club presented a special song.
The Student Support Committee honoured NU Science toppers Jasmin Begom (Rank 1) and Mariya K. Saji (Rank 2) with cash prizes, certificates, and mementoes. Academic Excellence Awards were presented to Niukai (Arts) and Jasmin Begom (Science), while Arela (History)received the Student of the Year Award. Speaking on the occasion, Mariya K. Saji encouraged students to work hard and trust the process.
The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) also felicitated Mr. I. Tochi Imlong and Miss Natitolen Chang for their entrepreneurial achievements. Sharing her journey from hobby to profession, Natitolen Chang urged students to develop their skills, remain curious, and pursue innovation.
In her address, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated the awardees and encouraged students to cultivate discipline, perseverance, and self-improvement, emphasising that success is determined by commitment rather than one's background.
The programme concluded with a prayer led by Mr. Moa, Home Evangelist, PBC, Saksi 3rd NAP Bn, followed by a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Akyuba Sangtam, Assistant Professor, Sao Chang College.

New College Bus Dedicated at Sao Chang College

The newly allotted college bus, provided by the Higher Education Department, was formally dedicated in a prayer service conducted by Mr. Chongma, Pastor of Khiamniungan Baptist Church, Saksi, Tuensang, along with the church's Deacon Board members.

The dedication programme was attended by the Principal, teaching faculty, and ministerial staff of Sao Chang College.

The Mentoring Committee of Sao Chang College, Tuensang, in collaboration with St. Joseph Pain and Palliative Care Centre (SJPC), Chümoukedima, organized an awareness programme on palliative care on 11 July 2026 at the college auditorium. The programme was conducted by Sr. Teris MSJ, Administrator, and Sr. Cicil Therese MSJ, Councillor, who sensitized students and faculty members to the importance of palliative care and compassionate support for individuals living with chronic and terminal illnesses.
During the interactive session, the resource persons explained that SJPC is committed to providing holistic, compassionate, and personalized care to patients with life-limiting illnesses. They highlighted the Centre's "No Bill" policy, under which medical, emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial support is provided free of cost to all patients, regardless of their background.
The speakers emphasized that while there may be limits to curing terminal illnesses, there should never be limits to providing care, comfort, dignity, and hope. They also outlined the Centre's services, including terminal illness care, home-based care, street outreach missions, end-of-life care, spiritual support, and psychosocial counselling. Special emphasis was placed on the indispensable role of volunteers in strengthening palliative care services and extending compassionate care to those in need.
Students were encouraged to volunteer and actively contribute to building a compassionate community. The programme concluded with an appeal to cultivate empathy, social responsibility, and a deeper understanding of palliative care among the student community.
