Art of reading- A thought by InOurArms. A tribute on the Reading Day.
As schools have reopened the children are now back with their routine and timely activities. Mere solitude days away from their peer groups are over. Even though schools play a responsible role in the upbringing of a child, can they suffice all their educational needs? It is often said that home is the first school and parents are the first teachers. So, there arise the most important question how many parents succeed in seeding the “habit of reading” in their offspring? Reading is the most pre-eminent skill that a child should gain before reaching the age of adolescence. How can parents make their kids attain this habit?
Listening and reading – the two pillars skills that are part and parcel of a quality life are the fundamental steps to be achieved. However, they do not evolve naturally. It is a cumbersome task attained through constant effort and practice. Children are to be motivated enough to fall into this sublime task wherein just like teaching a child with good habits or like training to ride a bicycle etc., likewise they are to be constantly exercised to listening and reading. In other words, to read they should develop the patience to listen and comprehend long conversations. It is scientifically as well as empirically proven that listening to stories enhance a kid’s patience and thinking levels. As a child, they are to be given maximum exposure to stories until it is developed into a habit in such a way that a day without a book is a day without completeness.
It is often criticized about the screen time that a child spends on a daily basis. They often lead a sedentary lifestyle than to their previous generations. As today’s world is more and more perplexed as well as complex, furthermore groundbreaking innovations are happening where people are becoming more dependent on technology and is inevitable to put a halt on screen. So, banishing children from the fantasies of digital world are not logical. In order to be fruitful, they have to be put into greater advantage.
