KANDALUM KONDALUM: A Day of Mangroves, Cinema, and Coastal Heritage

Today, we had an incredible experience at KANDALUM KONDALUM, organized by Ocean Students Community. The day was filled with excitement as participants enjoyed a peaceful backwater ride through the stunning mangroves of Poovar, Thiruvananthapuram, immersing themselves in the beauty of Kerala’s coastal ecosystem.

We were honored to have director Ajith Mampally, co-writer Satheesh Thonnakkal, and actor Sunil Alexander from the recently released movie Kondal join us for a lively and insightful discussion. They shared behind-the-scenes stories about the film, which highlights the life and struggles of Kerala’s coastal communities, particularly those from Anchuthengu. The conversations were not just about the movie, but also touched on the deeper connection between the ocean, cinema, and the environment.

The event was truly a celebration of nature and culture, and everyone left with a renewed sense of appreciation for the coastal life that Kondal beautifully portrays. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us today and made this event a memorable one!

KANDALUM KONDALUM

Ocean Students Community invites you to KANDALUM KONDALUM, an engaging event that connects the world of cinema, coastal life, and the beauty of Kerala’s mangroves. Kandal means mangroves in Malayalam, while Kondal is a local term used by fishermen to describe a specific type of wind. Inspired by these elements, this event will be held on Sunday, 29 September 2024 at the picturesque Poovar backwaters, Thiruvananthapuram.

The event will feature a serene backwater ride through the lush mangroves, followed by a discussion about the recently released film Kondal. The movie, a fictional tale with the ocean at its heart, authentically portrays Kerala’s coastal communities, particularly the village of Anchuthengu, where the actors’ characters are rooted.

We are excited to welcome special guests from the film’s team: director Ajith Mampally, co-writer Satheesh Thonnakkal, and actor Sunil Alexander, who played as one of the close friends of the hero. Together, we will dive into the themes of the film, explore the relationship between the ocean and Kerala’s coastal communities, and discuss environmental issues surrounding the mangroves.

Join us for a unique experience blending nature, cinema, and culture, as we celebrate Kerala’s coastal heritage amidst the tranquil beauty of Poovar’s mangroves!
