9 Years of Courage. Compassion. Commitment. ✨

Today, we celebrate the 9th Charter Day of the Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna — the only all-women Rotary Club in District 3291.

Nine years ago, a dream took flight: to create a platform where women could come together, not just to lead, but to serve, inspire, and transform lives. Against all odds, that dream has grown into a force of hope, touching countless lives through projects in education, healthcare, women empowerment, child development, environment, and community service.

Every milestone we have achieved has been powered by the passion of our members, the trust of our partners, and the unwavering belief that when women lead with purpose, communities flourish.

As we step into our 10th year, we do so with gratitude for the journey, pride in our legacy, and renewed determination to continue creating meaningful impact.

💜 Happy 9th Charter Day, RC Calcutta Avyanna!Against All Odds… 9 Years Strong. Many More to Soar! ✨

World Environment Day

On this World Environment Day, the Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna urges everyone to pause and reflect on the future we are creating for the generations to come.

As Chetan Solanki, the Solar Man of India, reminds us, the environmental crisis is real and becoming more alarming with every passing year. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and changing climatic patterns are no longer distant concerns—they are realities we are already experiencing.

While large-scale change requires policy and collective action, meaningful change can begin with each one of us through simple lifestyle choices.

Can we carpool instead of taking separate cars? Can we reduce unnecessary fuel consumption? Can we switch off the air conditioner for a few hours every day whenever possible? Can we avoid ironing clothes at least once a week and save electricity? Can we become more conscious of how we consume energy and resources?

No contribution is too small. When millions of people make small changes, the impact can be transformational.

The Earth does not need a few people doing everything perfectly. It needs all of us doing our bit, however small it may seem.

Let us pledge to live a little more responsibly, consume a little more mindfully, and leave behind a greener planet for future generations.

Green is not just a colour. It is the future.

🌍 Happy World Environment Day.

The U-Turn Hour — A Pause to Reconnect With Ourselves

In the middle of our fast-paced professional and personal lives, The U-Turn Hour Workshop turned out to be a truly refreshing and meaningful evening at the historic Calcutta International Club. It was not merely a workshop, but an experience of introspection, emotional awareness and quiet rejuvenation.

Life coach Diya Jaiswal, founder of Empowerful, conducted a deeply engaging and thought-provoking session on the “Psychology of Happiness” and mental well-being. With warmth, honesty and tremendous positivity, she shared her own inspiring journey — from a demanding career in foreign banking to becoming a certified life coach after courageously facing cancer head-on and transforming her life completely.

What made the session particularly impactful was the relatability of her thoughts. In today’s world, where stress, pressure and constant expectations often become part of daily life, she reminded us about the importance of pausing, reconnecting with ourselves and understanding what truly brings inner happiness and peace.

Diya introduced her signature concept, “The U-Turn Hour,” a mindfulness framework specially designed for busy professionals and individuals constantly juggling responsibilities. Through this concept, she encouraged all of us to take a step back from the chaos of life, identify our inner dissatisfaction and consciously work towards emotional well-being and self-awareness.

The session was highly interactive and experiential rather than merely theoretical. Through engaging activities and globally tested modules, participants were encouraged to identify their emotional “blind spots,” reflect on their thought patterns and prioritise mental wellness in a more meaningful manner.

The entire evening had a calm, comforting and positive energy. It created a safe and welcoming space where conversations about happiness from within oneself, emotional balance and mental wellness could happen openly and honestly.

Overall, The U-Turn Hour was a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the most important journey we undertake is the one within ourselves. Thought-provoking, enriching and deeply inspiring, the session left everyone with valuable takeaways and a renewed sense of self-awareness and positivity.

Lighting Young Minds Through Innovation — 2nd STEM Education Lab Inauguration

Continuing its commitment towards meaningful and future-ready education, the Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna proudly inaugurated its 2nd STEM Education Lab at Nalikul Balika Vidyalaya, Hooghly. It is indeed a matter of immense pride that RCC Avyanna had initiated the first STEM Lab in the district, and with this second lab, the journey of empowering young minds through innovative learning continues to grow stronger.

The inauguration was graciously conducted by First Lady Rtn. Dr. Bandana Homchowdhury, whose presence and encouragement added warmth and inspiration to the occasion. We sincerely thank her for taking out the time to support this important initiative.

Mrs. Paromita Chowdhury, Headmistress of the school, expressed immense happiness and heartfelt appreciation for the project, acknowledging how significantly the STEM Lab will benefit the students and open up new avenues of learning and exploration for them.

Unlike conventional classroom teaching, STEM Labs encourage interactive and project-based learning, enabling students to think beyond textbooks. These labs nurture scientific curiosity, creativity, problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills — qualities that are essential in today’s rapidly evolving world.

What made the initiative even more meaningful was the excitement and enthusiasm visible among the students. Their curiosity, eagerness to explore and joyful participation beautifully reflected the true purpose behind creating such learning spaces.

At RCC Avyanna, we strongly believe that education must evolve with time, and empowering children with access to technology and innovation is one of the most impactful forms of service. This STEM Lab is not merely a room filled with equipment — it is a space where imagination, learning and future possibilities come alive.

What made Ramdhaanu 2026 truly stand apart were the enriching and enlightening sessions by an extraordinary line-up of speakers. Every session brought fresh perspectives, inspiration and immense learning. The audience remained thoroughly engaged throughout.

A particularly remarkable session was by young AI prodigy Raul John Aju, who amazed everyone with his deep understanding of Artificial Intelligence at such a young age. Avyanna’s Promise— From Awareness to Action: Towards a Thalassemia-Free India.

Thalessemia demands attention—not tomorrow, not someday, but now. Because thalassemia is not just a medical condition; it is a lifelong sentence for a child who has done nothing wrong. There is no cure. There is no recovery. There is only survival—dependent on blood, again and again, for a lifetime. Every thalassemia-affected child lives on borrowed blood, while the country continues to face an ever-growing shortage that could have otherwise saved countless other lives.

And yet, this pain is largely preventable.

We match horoscopes. We consult astrologers. We search for stars and signs. But how often do we look through a microscope—at a simple blood test that can change destinies? A thalassemia test before marriage can prevent a lifetime of suffering. If both parents are carriers, the child is at risk. If only one is, there is no danger. Knowledge here is not fear—it is power.

Even during pregnancy, early testing can determine whether a child is affected. Difficult decisions may arise, but no decision is more painful than watching a child grow up with needles, transfusions, hospital beds, and fragile hope. All of this can be avoided—not by chance, not by prayer alone—but by awareness and responsibility.

This belief lies at the heart of the mission of Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna—the dream of a Thalassemia-Free India. Awareness is the first step. Action must follow. That is why our initiatives do not stop at words. They move into classrooms, colleges, and communities. They reach parents, young adults, and families—helping them understand the gravity of the issue and empowering them to act. Where awareness is accepted, testing follows. Where understanding grows, prevention begins.

This year, Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna is committed to conducting 50 to 60 awareness campaigns across Kolkata, standing shoulder to shoulder with the national mission of Thalassemia-Free India. Each campaign is a conversation. Each test is a possibility saved. Each informed choice is a life protected.

Because no child should be born into suffering that could have been prevented.
Because awareness today can spare a lifetime of pain tomorrow.
Because this is not just a project—it is a promise.

*Where Divinity Smiles – Saraswati Puja at Pratham Padakshep*

Saraswati Puja at Pratham Padakshep was not merely a ritual — it was a moment of quiet grace and deep emotion.

Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna joined the special children, their parents and teachers in worship, and from the very first chant, the atmosphere felt different — softer, purer, almost sacred beyond the ceremony itself. In the serene presence of Goddess Saraswati, every folded hand, every whispered prayer, every innocent smile spoke a language beyond words.

There was devotion — untouched and unfiltered.

With glowing faces and gentle excitement, the children offered anjali and later shared bhog together. Their joy was not loud, yet it was luminous. It reflected pride, belonging and a sense of celebration that came straight from the heart.

What made the space even more special was that the venue carried their imprint. Over the past week, the children had lovingly prepared paper flowers, decorating every corner with colour and care. Each flower held patience. Each petal carried effort. And together, they transformed the room into something far more meaningful than decoration — it became an expression of identity and participation.

It was not just beautiful.
It was personal.

RC of Calcutta Avyanna stands with Pratham Padakshep not merely in support, but in heartfelt solidarity — believing deeply in the quiet strength, creativity and limitless potential of these special children. Their abilities may unfold at their own pace, but their spirit shines unmistakably bright.

This celebration reminded us that divinity does not reside only in idols or rituals. It lives in inclusion. In shared humanity. In the dignity of being seen and celebrated just as one is.

Saraswati Puja that day was not only about seeking blessings of knowledge — it was about recognising wisdom in compassion, grace in acceptance, and strength in togetherness.

And in that gentle, sacred space, divinity truly smiled. 🍁✨
