Nakshatra is a club dedicated to developing students interest in science and astronomy in NIT Trichy (and to find the meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything). We conduct regular stargazing sessions with telescopes looking at shiny objects in the sky like the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn. As they make for pretty awe-inspiring, tear-jerking, whoa-inducing sights, looking through a telescope should

🌌 Glimpses from National Space Day 2025! 🌌

On 22nd August 2025, Nakshatra, the official Astronomy & Science Club of NIT Trichy, in collaboration with the Department of Physics, proudly observed the second National Space Day on campus. Two years ago, India made history with the Chandrayaan-3 mission, becoming the first nation to land on the Moon’s south pole, now the Shiv Shakti Point. Since then, we commemorate this milestone every year on 23rd August as National Space Day.🌙✨

The day was graced by our esteemed chief guest, Mr. S. Vijay Senthil, Senior Scientist/Engineer - SG, URSC, ISRO Bangalore; Dr. R. Karvembu, Dean (Students Welfare); Dr. N. Chandra Bose, HOD In-Charge; Dr. K. Thirukkumaran, Faculty Advisor of Nakshatra; Dr. Sreejith Mohan, Associate Dean (Students Welfare), among other esteemed dignitaries.

With a footfall of 200+ students accompanied by their teachers and parents from 25+ schools across Trichy, the event featured inspiring addresses, a fascinating talk by Dr. S. Somanath on "Exoplanets & the Search for Extraterrestrial Life", and a well-received interactive quiz. The students’ bright minds and boundless enthusiasm made the session extremely engaging, keeping everyone on their toes!🧠✨

The participants of the quiz were rewarded with exclusive Nakshatra goodies. We also celebrated creativity through our online competitions namely "Dream Planet" Writing Contest and "Sketch Your Spacesuit" Drawing Contest which observed outstanding submissions from young space enthusiasts!

It was truly heartwarming to witness these young minds, full of curiosity and passion for astronomy and space science, engaging with such enthusiasm — the future generation of scientists and engineers who will lead India and the world in space exploration.

✨ After two months of a cosmic jam session, from the adrenaline of rapid-fire rounds to the slow, intense builds of problem-solving and personal growth, gruelling tasks and challenging crescendos, we are beyond elated to drop the ultimate cosmic chartbuster: our Nakshatra family’s newest members! Heartiest congratulations to all the inductees for making it into the club. 🎶

A special shoutout to our managers as well, who have orchestrated every note of this legacy with relentless effort and dedication. Together, you have all proved your worth, transformed challenges into your greatest hits, and now you’re part of a playlist that will echo forever in the cosmos. 💫

Here’s to another stellar year ahead filled with learnings, curiosity and excellence. 🌠
