What happens when storytelling steps off the page and onto the stage?

At DATSI School for Storytellers, our students brought Beyond the Land of Hattamala to life through a vibrant theatrical performance, exploring the timeless satire of Badal Sircar. Following the journey of Kenna and Becha through a strange and thought-provoking world, the play challenged ideas of greed, materialism, and the values that shape society.

Conducted as part of a Theatre Workshop by Mr. Abraham T. Chacko from , the experience encouraged students to think, perform, collaborate, and connect with storytelling beyond the screen. A reminder that every great storyteller begins by understanding people, emotions, and the world around them.

How does a studio handle thousands of assets, shots, and iterations without slowing down production?

At our recent Circle Time session, students had the opportunity to learn from Joseph Tom .josephtom_ , Senior Pipeline & Technical Director at Sony Pictures Image Works , as he explored the role of Python scripting and automation in modern animation and VFX pipelines.

From building small tools to streamlining repetitive tasks, the session offered valuable insights into the technical systems that power large-scale productions. More importantly, it sparked conversations, questions, and curiosity among students eager to understand how creativity and technology work together behind the scenes.

A room full of ideas, colours, questions, and imagination.

Last week at the DATSI campus, more than 20 young participants stepped into a world of storytelling, animation, drawing, movement, and creative exploration through the Summer Camp experience.

Some arrived quietly. Some arrived curious. But somewhere between sketches, stories, laughter, and collaboration, the room slowly transformed into a space filled with creators discovering new ways to imagine and express.

A beautiful reminder that creativity begins when children are simply given the space to explore.

From Script to Screen with

A special session on production design, visual development and the craft of turning ideas into cinematic worlds.

Rupali took our students and artists through the journey of how stories move from paper to image, and from image to screen, through observation, references, mood, scale, space, culture, colour and visual intent.

A beautiful reminder that great images are not just made.
They are thought through.

Thank you, Rupali Gatti, for sharing your process with such generosity.

Grateful to and KINFRA Film & Video Park, Trivandrum, for providing the space for this session.

A moment of completion. A beginning of something new.

Last Saturday, Batch 06 at DATSI School for Storytellers marked their convocation, celebrating not just the end of a program, but the start of individual journeys into storytelling, animation, and filmmaking.

Our Chief Guest Rupali Gatti, who shared her perspective on craft and creative thinking, alongside Virendra Patil, Founder of DATSI School and Zebu Animation Studios, whose vision continues to shape a space where stories are learned, built, and experienced.

Each student walked away not just with a milestone, but with a deeper understanding of how to observe, think, and create.
