Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations
On 21st Aug 2019 BITS Pilani, a well-renowned educational institution all across the globe signed a technology transfer contract with Alicorn Medical Private Limited. The Tech transfer was on InstaDerm, a Wound healing treatment product. Wound healing is one of the biggest health problem of today. An estimated 10% to 20% of the populace in developing countries will experience a chronic wound during their lifetime. Dr. Aniruddha Roy's lab at Department of Pharmacy, BITS-Pilani have developed an in-situ forming bio-polymeric scaffold for the treatment of severe wound patients. The uniqueness of InstaDerm is its ability to form a film in-situ, that means at the wound site. The idea is to apply two solutions at the wound area and it will form a bioprotective porous scaffold within minutes at the wound site. Most of the currently available products offer only mechanical support and does not potentiate wound healing at the cellular level or prevent microbial infection. InstaDerm has very strong tissue regenerating property along with antibacterial activity. It also has excellent haemostatic and protein absorption activity, which will help stop bleeding.
