Support the 2016-17 Insight India students, 100% of all donations go to support scholarships for engineering students who otherwise may not be able to have the international business experience of a lifetime! Help our students to meet their scholarship fundraising goal of $20,000 by their September 30 deadline. No gift is too big or too small, every $5, $25 or $100 brings the students closer to a dream come true.

India Institute of Technology of Delhi presented to our group this morning on the University's growth and development throughout India. We then toured a few of their research laboratories and classrooms.
One research project under material science studies focuses on material deformation and strength of motorcycle and bicycle helmets. Pictured is an Instron machine that snaps pictures as it impacts the material below. The material on the inside of a helmet is designed to have air flow and deform in a way that absorbs the force of the impact, maximizing the helmet's safety and effectiveness. One professor of the institute mentioned that the most important part of the helmet is using the chin strap, because without it could be considered not wearing a helmet at all.
We were also impressed by the technology and set up in some of the newer classrooms. Professors use a tablet or smart board to write or type and face the students, which is then more interactive with students and allows more effective learning to accrue.

Agra Fort stood strong and stunning for our cultural excursion this evening. Agra Fort is the largest fort in Asia constructed during the 16th and 17th century. It took over three generations of the Mughal Empire to build, starting with Akbar, through Jahangir and Shah Jahan. Red sandstone and marble architecture are intertwined throughout. The Taj Mahal can be seen from the fortress's walls. The fort is surrounded by draw bridges and motes that were once filled with crocodiles for extra protection.

This past evening we visited Majorda Beach in South Goa. Some caught starfish in the surf, some practiced yoga, others took on jet skiing and parasailing!
We were able to relax after an intensive day of discussion over the pharmaceutical industry in India and the United States. Innovation can be the most costly part of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company. Once a company releases a drug to market, the prices are often increased in order to pay for years of research with no income. This is common amongst all industries. Pharmaceutical manufacturers however, are often faced with an additional element of humanitarianism. Where is the balance between charging a high enough price on your latest cure to cover research costs and making the drug affordable so a majority of the people who need the drug, often people below the poverty line (think AIDS, malaria), can buy and use it.

Monkey sightings during our cultural visits to a tropical spice plantation and to the Tambdi Surla Temple have provided some light entertainment for the group of business and engineering students on the Winter 2015-2016 trip!

Our last day in India was cheerfully celebrated at the Asian School of Business with a cultural event involving singing, dancing by both the ASB students and our very own sari-donning ladies, fireworks, and dinner with all of the ASB students. We even performed the Alma Mater for our Indian friends. We will miss them all, and hope to hear from them soon!

On our next to last day in India we were fortuitous enough to be able to meet with the Indian Minister of State for Human Resource Development to discuss Indian education after a company visit at HLL.

The day started off with a visit to the Trivandrum International School where the students took International Baccalaureate classes. Next, we got the opportunity to see how the locals made rope with coconuts!

After returning to Trivandrum, many of the business students spent the night and morning studying for their test in the afternoon. After the test, we appreciated our last beach visit as our trip started to wind down. Kovalam beach has some of the craziest waves in all of India!
