Leading, Discovery & Innovation The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a growing phenomenon.

Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, RGCB began in 1990 amongst humble surroundings as a small charitable society called the Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991, recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a “Grant-in-Aid” institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of Education, Science

A daycare facility at the BRIC-RGCB Akkulam campus was inaugurated on 1st June 2026 by Dr. Beena Pillai, Director, in the presence of Mr. S. Mohanan Nair, Chief Controller; Dr. Parijat Senapati, Scientist; Dr. Nagarjun Narayanaswamy, Scientist; and Mr. K. K. Narayanan, Chief Engineer.

On the school reopening day (1st June 2026) at Vlavetty Govt. Tribal LPS, BRIC-RGCB’s student charity club Kiranam surprised every child with a kit containing a school bag, books, pens, and pencils. Nine RGCB research students, led by Ms. Unnimaya, coordinated the program in the presence of Dr. S. Asha Nair, Dean, Dr. Anish N. P., Deputy Registrar, and Mr. Anand Mohan, Senior Manager (all from BRIC-RGCB).

BRIC-RGCB has organized a workshop on “Coding for Biologists" from 19th to 21st May 2026 at the Bioinformatics facility, RGCB Akkulam Campus. The workshop provided an intensive training program on R Basics: Data Analysis and Visualization. 32 participants attended the workshop. BRIC-RGCB, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, invites applications for admission to its PhD program for the August 2026 session in various fields of biotechnology. BRIC-RGCB is an institute of the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. focuses on disease biology research and conducts innovative studies on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of diseases affecting humans, animals, and plants.
The BRIC-RGCB Ph.D program for the academic year 2026-2027 will commence in August 2026. Online applications are invited from Indian students for admission to the BRIC-RGCB PhD program.

A joint meeting was held between and Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. Beena Pillai, Director, BRIC-RGCB, and Dr. Rejnish Kumar R, Director, RCC, led the discussions. This is to enhance ongoing collaborations between the two institutes and to launch new research programs focused on genomics and other frontier areas of cancer research.
