Motivational stories from the ones who have cleared CMA successfully and an insight into their professional life post CMA and how it changed their Life..

22/09/2019

I am Ujal Kumar from odisha and belong to a not-so-affluent family.

I completed my graduation from odisha. After that my teacher advised me to join CMA course.

At that time I was very nervous coz everyone told me that , this course is very tough and you cannot clear this course.

Also my family financial position was not good. So I was literally nervous ..

But after some months when my graduation results were out, I decided to join CMA course .

My family also supported me and assured me that whatever expense there was will be provided by them. So I felt confident and decided to go ahead.

I moved to Kolkata and took admission in the year 2013 under 2012 sullabus.

My first exam for grp 1 was due on Dec 13.
But my preparation was not good for Dec 13 term . So I decided to appear in June 14.

I appeared in June 2014 term and secure 162 out of 400. Result Fail. I was very disappointed and very nervous .

Then I motivated myself to appear in next term after watching motivational videos and quotes.

I appeared in Dec 14 and secure 192 out of 400. Just short of 8 marks for clearing grp 1.

On that day I was very nervous and disappointed. Also I wanted to give up this course. Bcoz till then I have not faced failure in my academic career .

But after getting advice from seniors and support from family I decided to hold on.

The next attempt was on June 15. I put all my efforts and worked hard day and night to clear grp 1 .

I appeared in June 15 and score 236 out of 400 . I was shocked and cried with happiness. On that day I was very very happy.

After that I motivated myself to clear group 2 in 1 attempt and put all my efforts and hard work. Many of my friends discouraged me saying that grp 2 will take another 2 years. But I just avoided those things & focused on my goal.

I appeared in Dec 15 and secure 238 out of 400. Inter qualified.

After that due to financial condition I could not took admission for final. So joined in CA firm for 1 year and saved money to get admission for final. My family financial condition was not good.

Finally I took admission in final in Feb 17 under new syllabus 2016.
And my first group exam was due on June 17.
But due to lack of preparation I could not appear in June 17.

Later I left CA firm and decided to appear in final for both groups in Dec 17

This period was really struggle period for me. Because both group in one attempt with 8 subjects was very tough. So I made a plan and set a big goal. For each subject I just wrote down what will be my score and pasted it on wall in my room.

Every morning , when I wake up I just saw my goal and prepare accordingly.

Also everyday I watched motivational videos and read at least 30 min good books like "who will cry when u die"
"Rich Dad poor Dad" and "The Secrets " etc.

Everyday I just motivated myself and worked hard to clear both groups. That was my everyday routine .

I devoted daily 12 to 14 hours for preparation.

Lastly during the exam time, it was indeed a tough time to appear continuously 8 papers without any GAP .

I just slept 32 hrs in those 8 days.

After exams, again I joined a CA firm for practical exposure.

Then finally judgement day, it was on 21st Feb 2018. I was in office and saw my result .....

It was unbelievable and I was crying.
I could not stop my tears.....
All India Rank 25
Final qualified
Total marks 474.

Then I appeared for campus and got selected in Indian oil Corp limited as Accounts Officer with a package of 17 Lacs.

Nothing is impossible. It is depends on you. Everything is possible..
Just believe in yourself and motivate yourself. There is no substitute for hard work and stay positive .

Hope this story will be helpful for CMA aspirants

I was invited to this group long long back, when I was asked to share my "Success story" (as they call it). At that point of time, I could not gather my thoughts at one place, neither am I ready at this very moment, but still really want to share my journey from a mediocre student to a qualified CMA (yeah, I feel proud to be addressed by this THREE LETTER prefix).

So, the beginning of this starts with the 2nd year of my Graduation days when I wanted to pursue something professional in order to give my career an edge, I wrote Foundation exams and due to its not so complex exam structure, I could be able to crack it at one go.

The Intermediate group was another step ahead, wherein I attended postal coaching, although as per me, at the end of the day, self-study is what matters the most. I wrote Group 1 exams wherein I could not get through it but I got exemption in Accounts (which was not a relief at all, cause now I have to score 100 out of 200), yet I decided to take the exemption and gathered courage to sit in Group 1 for the second time, this time I had to write only 2 subjects. The result were announced and guess what, I didn't clear it (which was a complete shock to me).

Few of my friends advised me to apply for verification so I did the same. While preparing for G-2 exams, the verification results were out and I got 101 (I was astonished to see this). In the subsequent exams, I could be able to crack G-2 exams easily as now I was confident.

But the real STRUGGLE was Finals. For Finals, I attended private coaching but I was completely directionless as to how to put efforts. And as expected, I failed multiple times, yeah multiple times. Meanwhile, I chose to give up and decided to move my hard-work to the real world (job), after having completed a year in job, I had this strange thought of giving myself another shot by taking exams. That was literally a tough decision for me. Now I was able to overcome my fear (the fear of failures), hence decided to write G-4 first as I could manage Accounts and other subjects involved in this group. And I went through it.

Next challenge ahead was G-3 (which was a ghost to me), so, I made the whole plan, which was to focus on my weak areas first and tried to remove it. I took sufficient leaves from office for preparation as this would be last attempt (since I belong to 2012 syllabus). Now, the exams days have arrived, I took December 2017 exams, and this time, I was fueled up with confidence, not just confidence, I could be able to overcome my fear totally. I put all my efforts in that 3-hour duration.

After the exams were over, I left the result to the ALMIGHTY.
And the judgement day came, it was 21st February 2018, I was at my workplace. I secretly checked my result and I just saw ' CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE QUALIFIED', this moment left me numb, actual numb, the whole flashback flashing up my head. I was crying, happily crying.
My story may sound a little exaggerating but believe me it was not easy.

What I have learnt from my own journey is 'You are the sole motivator for yourself despite having the odds in one's life'. You can not depend on others for your own success and happiness.

Thanks to this group for choosing me to share my story.
Currently I am working with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Mathura Refinery) as an Accounts Officer, placed through Campus placement Apr'18.

Hope you find my story a little motivating for the CMA aspirants.

Thanks and Regards,
ACMA Amisha Shah

Here is the another CMA Success story from CMA Bharath Kumar.

Please like, share and contact us for your CMA Success Story.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi guys!! I am Bharath Kumar. Just thought of sharing my professional journey so far with you all!! If this can give some kind of inspiration to those who read it,I have achieved the true objective of writing this post.

I completed my entire schooling in the same school by the name of Bosco Academy which was a very simple educational institution in the northern suburbs of the humid southern metropolis of Chennai.

My dad was a state government employee working in the assistant cadre and my mom was working in a private company as stores executive. We as a family had humble backgrounds and nothing big to boast of in all ways.

My parents were graduates but could not afford for higher studies as my paternal and maternal grandfathers passed away and both being the elder kid of their respective families they had no other option rather than to for jobs to meet the family needs.

My parents right from my childhood days were very practical as they told me very clearly that if you want to be comfortable you need to study and earn more. All we can afford you is a complete education till graduation.

Hence as I grew up, I did not have big dreams and my dream was to just land on a job post completion of my education.

I was an above average student during my school years and always had my scores hanging in the 80's range.

I passed my 10th examination with a score of 88%and was very clear that I was not gonna choose science just because of my self realization that I am not gonna become a best engineer or a scientist.

The only option left was to go for commerce field without knowing anything about the profession and options available.

As I was nearing my higher secondary examination,I met one of my family member and he guided me about the CA course and curriculum.

The only thing that striked me at that point was the money you can earn if we complete the course. So without knowing the depth and rigour,I registered for the CPT exam and once I completed my secondary examination,I started my preparations for CPT exams.

I did not knew that the examination fees needs to be paid and hence could not appear for the exams.☹️

The day of my results came and I secured 95% in my secondary examination and joined a reputed institution for my Bachelor degree in commerce.I again happened to meet that family member and told him what has happened and he guided me on CMA course this time which was called CWA formerly.

I registered again for this course and this time was sharp enough to pay my fees and clear the foundation exams.

Then came the rude shock in my life where I happened to fail in my group 1 intermediate exams. I was given just 8 marks in my taxation paper but managed to get an exemption in accounting paper.

I took up this taxation paper with vigour and cleared it in the next attempt along with the law paper and secured 70 each in both the papers and cleared group 2 in the subsequent attempt.

As I completed my bachelor degree,I completed my intermediate level as well and landed a job in one of the Big 4 through my college campus placements.

I worked for just 5 months and quit the job for pursuing my final level exams much against the wishes of my parents but they finally agreed with my decision.

I studied and studied and studied for 8 months and cleared my final exams. I secured 60+marks in 5 of the total 8 final papers.

Then came the campus and I was offered jobs by 4 companies but I went ahead and started my career with an Indian Conglomerate and worked with them in different places in India for 4 years.

I then went for a job change and currently working with a leading Consumer goods manufacturing company as Manager in charge of Capex cell and Financial Reporting and Controlling.

Life can be designed in your way if you work hard and have an objective in your mind. I have seen many people whose career goes off the radar during the crucial age starting at 18 years and 24 years.

If you remain focused during this age, you can enjoy the rest of your life in peace and with flying colors.

I managed to clear the CMA exams held by IMA USA as well and now proudly ACMA and CMA (USA).

Decide your objective and work around as to how to achieve the objective and make it as your life till you achieve it.

Your life is in your hands.😀

With Best Wishes,
Bharath Kumar ACMA, CMA(USA).

MY STORY – GOD’S PLAN FOR YOU ARE MUCH BETTER THAN YOUR PLANS FOR YOURSELF

Hi Everyone, I am CA CS CMA Nikkhil Gupta and I belong to Delhi. I was a studious child from the very beginning of my school life. I was good in extra-curricular activities and had won national accolades for public speaking on various forums.
I always wanted to become a Doctor, and was ready to put in everything required to attain my goals. However, I lost my father when I was in 9th standard and my family (my mother, brother and me) were dependent on my grandfather. My grandfather was a retired businessman with no source of earnings. He was surviving on his past savings and the additional responsibility of maintaining our family was not a cake walk for him. Still, with all his might, he did the best to provide us all the amenities which were required.
Now, came the turning point and the moment of choice – at the end of 10th standard, whether to choose Science or Commerce. I wanted to take Science (medical), but I knew that under no circumstance could my grandfather bear the enormous expense of the medical course. Hence, in consultation with my mom, I chose Commerce in XIth standard. Needless to say I was heartbroken, I always wanted to be a doctor and was fascinated by the medical profession. It seemed as if my dreams were shattered and I did not get what I was willing to work for wholeheartedly and sincerely. Nonetheless, I worked hard towards Commerce and aimed to obtain the 3 most prestigious degrees of the finance field - CA CS and CMA.
I worked hard and cleared my CA in first attempt at the age of 22. Fortunately, I got an opportunity to work for the esteemed Big 4s since the beginning of my career and got to work on highly technical assignments (both audit and taxation) for big multinational companies, which I enjoyed a lot. I decided to continue my CS and CMA alongwith working in the Big 4s. My company refused leaves for exams and gave leaves only on the days of the exam. Still I never lost hope as I had a strong belief that if God has taken me so far, he will definitely hold my hand in the future as well. Despite of studying for meagre hours after the office timings, I managed to clear CS and CMA in first attempts. It was a dream to hold all the three degrees and it was an Aha moment for me to obtain them. This is when I realized the importance of self-believe and self-confidence in giving these professional exams. It really doesn’t matter whether you have a sufficient time to prepare or not, whether you have taken coaching not not, if you study smart and in a focused manner you will clear the exams for sure. The golden rule to be followed is “Give it your best shot and leave the rest to God”.
Simultaneously, I continued my passion for teaching (over the weekends). I always wanted to teach subjects which other teachers were hesitant to take up, and, hence I took up Cost Audit and SPM/BVM for CMA Final students. I can proudly say that I was the first teacher in Delhi to take up the classes of these subjects exclusively for CMA students.
So now when I look back and analyse the event of not getting into the Science field, I realise that had I been in Science field, I might not have been as happy and content as I am today. It was God’s choice to get me into Commerce and to give me the wonderful opportunity of working with the Big 4s and to pursue my passion for teaching. Hence, I always believe that God’s plan for you are always better than your plans for yourself. So whenever you are faced with failure, despair, disappointment in life, get the hint that he (God) is directing you to a better plan and a better future. Whenever I am in a difficulty, the following song of John Martin, reverberates in my mind:
“Don't you worry, don't you worry child………See heaven's got a plan for you” 

“Success is a Journey, Not a Destination.”

Hai, I am Nikhil Subhash Acma . It gives me immense pleasure to share my CMA Journey for the students on special request made by Ranju Ravindran.

Before I start to share my story, I want your special attention on above positive thought. Because, it will help you till you complete your CMA degree. Some people stop their course in the middle of intermediate level, or may be at final level, for them I will say remember above positive thought.

Any Professional’s course value is zero until you complete that course successfully.

About my family background, my father is an auto rickshaw driver (My Real Strength throughout my life) He couldn’t complete his education due to his family problem. Due to that he had adopted driving as a source of income .It was really very difficult time. Due to not having sufficient income source, we all had our education in Municipal Corporation School in my area. Due to that reason after passing SSC exam with 70%, I had decided to enrol for commerce stream. That time one of my sister’s friend shared her interest in ICWA course (Now, ICMAI). And also shared its difficulty level. That time I thought to take admission for this course. Initially, some students / Seniors showed me fear about this course by judging my educational performance. But, without any reason, I enrolled for this course.

Where there is will, there is a way.

I joined my foundation classes for two subjects basic Mathematics and Accounting and costing .Both faculties were outstanding .However, due to money problem I had to leave tuition. Fortunately, I cleared foundation exam first attempt with goods marks. My confident level was at the top of the town that time. After that I completed my intermediate level in first attempt with handsome figures 178/300 and 210/300 respectively. My study planning, ex*****on were outstanding. I remembered today also, my family faced lot of financial crisis during this time. At times, we had to borrow funds from market also. My father had belief that their children were hard working. And one day they will change these bad patch also. Thanks to him for such kind of strong faith.

I successfully completed the final course at the age of 23. Nothing is impossible my friends if you are Hardworking, sincere and dedicated. My family, friends, teachers supported me a lot.
And Auto rickshaw driver’s son became a cost accountant.

“Winners are not a supernatural they just fight one more time when others have quit.”

During my study time, I studied for more than 10 Hours consistently. Proper planning and ex*****on, both are equally important. Instead of making long term plans, you should make short term planning and ex*****on of the same is important.

After successfully completing my course I thought everything will be good.

But friends, degree is only a gate pass to enter into a park. Real struggle starts after that. I want to mention one thing over here that not to miss practical training which is mandatory to every students. Because only having degree is not sufficient, you must have practical experience also. Then you can stand at same level with others professional students. There are number of opportunities waiting for students in the market nowadays. After successfully clearing my practical training I applied for membership. Now, Auto rickshaw driver's son became a member of ICAI (Cost) and is presently working with EPC Industries Ltd.( A Group of Mahindra Companies) and simultaneously pursuing Company Secretary Professional level. Hope I will complete that one also in near future.

Nikhil Subhash Pawar

Two months have elapsed since we featured our last story. I was thrilled to see the overwhelming response we received then and all those enquiries about "how to get my story featured " was a beacon of hope to keep this page running..

But I am dejected to say that the enthusiasm was short lived. Even after repeated reminders, the only response I have so far received is the promise to send in an entry "soon". I don't know, how soon is this "soon".

I quite understand the concept of "year end" busy bees but the pace in which our counterpart "CA stories" sharing the success stories of chartered accountants is mocking straight at my face. So does this mean that CAs are actually taking a break while we CMAs are supposedly sweating out at this "year-end" fiasco

or

is it simply that CAs are more efficient at time management than CMAs?

Or

Is it coz being a CMA doesn't count as much as a success as being a CA that we are actually ashamed in proudly proclaiming, how we did it?

Or

Does it simply reinforce the lethargic attitude of our fraternity??

Whatever might be the reason, I urge each one of you to overcome the hurdles you have set yourself and contribute in whatever way you can in building a brand and make our name heard so that in time it won't be necessary to explain CMA as " a course like CA" anymore.

By quoting a poem I have learnt in 4th std, I am concluding this post.

"Little drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the pleasant land.

Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,
Help to make earth happy
Like the heaven above."
