In Bharatanatyam adavus,Thattadavu consists of eight basic variations done in three different speeds. The students learn to sing all the eight Thattadavus in 3 different speeds set to a particular rhythmical pattern (Thala).

Thattadavu 8 is a fundamental Bharatanatyam step involving eight consecutive heel-strikes on the floor per side while in Aramandi (half-sit position) with hands on the waist.
