Dear Balikamatom Alumni and Teachers,

With great expectations we are reviving this page and making it user friendly for interaction with your alma mater. In addition to networking, developing and maintaining contacts, another main purpose is to seek the help of all of you to raise funds towards the further development of our school. Towards this I hope you will contribute liberally. All your remittances will have to be yo our account with with State Bank of Travancore, Thirumoolapuram branch, account details of which are given below. This will be operated only by me (Dr. K. C. Mammen) and George Varghese (Raju) and it will be under strict control to protect against hacking and unauthorized withdrawals.

We have received substantial support during the last three years from all Students, Teachers and Interested friends. Our accounts are audited annually and Government of India has recognized us as an eligible institution to receive foreign contributions

I'm sure that with the modifications in the website their will be interaction among Alumni and Teachers, so that I'm expecting that a number of you will be able to carry forward this task of strengthening our financial base.

Greeting from Balikamatom Higher Secondary Girls School, Tiruvalla.

It is sometime since we last contacted you. I am now writing to keep you posted on the progress of the school.
With help from many of you, we managed to collect an account of Rs 14 Lakhs. With this and some little income from the unaided section of the school, the following development work has been completed.

1. Restoration of the Chapel
2. Playgrounds
3. Water Supply
4. General Repairs

The above was in addition to the following extensive construction and substantial developments carried out by the earlier office bearers.

1. Three storied building for new class rooms;
2. Equipping laboratories;
3. Improving boarding school facilities;
4. Upgrading toilets in boarding school

We are happy to inform you that we have taken a decision not to burden teaching staff by seeking contributions from them for activities like running school bus, maintenance of buildings etc.

Of course, funds are needed for meeting the running expenses and continuing the development. For example, we recently replaced one old school bus utilising funds available from earlier collection and bank loan. So to be able to bank on the goodwill of our alumni we would like to update our list of alumni address. We have opened a facebook site. Unlike the usual facebook, used for widening mere social contacts, we intend to use it for developing alumni network. It is the alumni network which really built and sustains great institution like Harvard.

So, please get in touch with all the alumni in your circle and inform them about our page, which will continue to provide more photographic features of our School, report on various activities, events and new developments. This will serve as a platform for fund raising for the growth of your dear Alma Mater. You certainly know that the school was started in 1902 by Kandathil Varghese Mappillai and it is housed in an 8 acre sprawling campus.

You may be interested to know that we have received necessary authorisation from the Central government to receive foreign contributions. You can directly remit your contribution to Current Account No. 67110281909 with State Bank of Travancore, Thirumoolapuram, Thiruvalla.

Overseas donors will use the Swift code of state Bank of Travancore - SBTRINBBFED for remittance. Our accounts are audited annually and submitted to Central Government in Delhi.

I am pleased to tell you that we have received a donation of Rs.5 lakhs towards an endowment in the name of Mariam Matthen, head girl in the early days. The contribution was made by her grandson who lives in Australia I memory of his grandmother.

An Open Letter to the Alumni of the Balikamatom Higher Secondary School For Girls

Dear Balikamatom Alumnus

Greetings from Balakamatom!

I am pleased to address you at this exciting and pivotal time when Balikamatom embarks on certain development projects in its 108th year.

As some of you may know, our school has been making an initiative to contact alumni in order to rebuild old connections and foster new relationships. The benefits of having a strong alumni base are obvious and it is our hope that this would help Balikamatom achieve new heights.

We are proud that this community of people who are our former students continues to make significant and distinctive contributions to Balikamatom.

To face new challenges, much needed to be accomplished at our school. For the benefit of our students, Balikamatom badly requires new infrastructure. Upgrading classrooms, adding a new computer lab for adopting modern learning methods, improving the sanitary facilities which are very important for a girls' school are the priorities for now. We also urgently require two school buses to bring students who are not living close-by.

We face stiff competition from schools run by various Christian denominations and other religious trusts which are in plenty in the neighbourhood. For your information, the school though closely connected to the Orthodox Church, is not owned by the Church and therefore funds have to be collected by the management, many of whom are already substantial donors.

Government of India has approved Balikamatom collecting donations from abroad on condition that audited accounts of receipts and disbursements are submitted every year to the authorities. Our school accounts are totally transparent and audited every year. So we have no issues.

Those who are abroad know that premier institutions like Harvard developed mainly due to large annuities given as donations by their alumni. I urge you to join us in the concerted efforts to renew and reinvent this unique institution, your alma mater, at the start of its 11th decade by considering a gift to the school. Every gift, large or small, makes a difference. It will make the school relevant to the present day needs of the society by enhancing the quality of education and training being imparted by the school.

Balikamatom is dedicated to teaching and providing the best educational experience possible for its students. All donations to school go directly to the development activities and your contribution will have tremendous impact on students and help them to acquire the skills, to face the challenges in life and inculcate proper values in them through empowerment.

I believe this is an opportunity for our alumnus to remain involved with the School and be part of its progress.

പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമായി ബോര്‍ഡിങ് സ്കൂളുകളും കോളജുകളും ഇന്നൊരു പുതുമയല്ല. എന്നാല്‍ നുറ്റിയെട്ട് വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുമ്പ് പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമായി ഒരു റസിഡന്‍ഷ്യല്‍ സ്കുള്‍ ഈ മലയാള മണ്ണില്‍ സ്ഥാപിതമായി.

സ്കൂളിന്റെ വികസനത്തിനായി വേണ്ടി വിദേശത്ത് നിന്നും ഫണ്ട് സ്വീകരിക്കാനുള്ള കേന്ദ്ര സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ അനുമതിയും നമുക്ക് കിട്ടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. വിദേശത്ത് നല്ല നിലയില്‍ ജീവിക്കുന്ന പൂര്‍വ വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ക്കും അഭ്യുദയകാംഷികള്‍ക്കും ഈ സൌകര്യം പ്രയോജനപെടുത്തി സഹായിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയും.
