Government Degree College Thannamandi observes World Ozone day





Government Degree College Thannamandi celebrated World Ozone day by organizing a symposium on the theme “Save Ozone Layer-Save Life”. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Principal of the college Prof. (Dr) Farooq Ahmed. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Sh. Shafiq Ahmed Mir (JKAS) Sub-Divisional Magistrate Thannamandi. The programme was started with welcome address of Prof. Naveen Sharma HoD Environmental Sciences. He also briefed the gathering about the importance of celebration of World Ozone day. The proceeding of the programme was conducted by Dr. Khalid Rayaz, HoD Geography. 08 students presented their talk in the symposium. Ms. Saba Naz of B. Sc semester 5th secured 1st position whereas, 2nd and 3rd positions were clinched by Mr. Adnan Aqib and Ms. Aqsa Raina of B. Sc 5th semester respectively. The programme was adjudged by Dr. Nahim-Un-Nisa HoD Arabic, Prof Raheela Mushtaq HoD Zoology and Dr. Ajaz Nazir HoD Physics. Mementos and certificates were presented to all the winners. Principal of the college Dr. Farooq Ahmed lauded the efforts of the organizing committee for making this programme a success.
While speaking on the occasion, Sh. Shafiq Ahmed Mir (JKAS) congratulated the organizing committee and the participating students. He said that World Ozone Day is celebrated every year on 16 September to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol that seeks to phase out the production and consumption of substances that damage the ozone layer along with this he also motivated the students and ask them to plant as much as they can. Almost all the faculty members and a large numbers of students and NSS Volunteers attended the programme. The programme ended with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Tajinder Singh HoD Botany.

Govt. Degree College Thannamandi organised an Outreach programme on Drug Addiction at Panchayat Mangota Thannamandi.



NSS Unit of Govt. Degree College Thannamandi in collaboration with Tourism Club of the College organized a Community Outreach Programme to create awareness on “Drug Abuse” at High School Mangota, of village Mangota, Thannamandi under the Banner of Nasha Mukht J&K Abhiyan. The event was organized under the patronage of the principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed. The programme included Awareness Lectures on the theme "Drug and Drug Abuse" by the NSS Volunteers of the College. While moving from road towards school NSS Volunteers and students also raised slogans regarding the theme to create awareness among the villagers. During the lecture, 6 NSS Volunteers discussed various intoxicants such as Alcohol, Ni****ne, and Caffeine, highlighting their effects on the present generation. The Headmaster of High School Mangota Sh. Mohd Bashir also highlighted the ill effects of drugs in the society. Earlier The formal welcome address was presented by the NSS, Programme Officer, Prof. Muhammand Shoket and the proceedings of the event were conducted by Mr. Adnan Aqib NSS Head boy.
The awareness lectures were attended by various members of Mangota village including the Sarpanch of the village. Prof. Naveen Sharma HoD Environmental Sciences was also present on the occasion. Other than this approximately 250 student 12 teachers of HS Mangota and 38 NSS volunteers, students were present. Dr. Khalid Rayaz HoD Geography, also highlighted the issue during the programme and thanked the villagers as well as school administration for their cooperation. Certificates were provided to all the participants. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Adnan Aqib by expressing gratitude to the Headmaster Sh. Mohd Bashir and the local community for their active participation in the programme.

*Government Degree College Thannamandi Celebrates Teachers’ Day*




Government Degree College Thannamandi organized a symposium on the topic “Teachers in the Transformation of Society” to celebrate National Teachers day. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Principal of the college Dr. Farooq Ahmed. Chief Guest of the occasion was Prof. (Dr) Shakeel Ahmed Raina (Retd. Principal from Department of Higher Education) and Special Guest was Jnb. Khurshid Bismil (Renowned Educationist). Earlier a plantation drive was conducted in which saplings were planted by the chief guest Prof. (Dr) Shakeel Ahmed Raina along with the principal and special guest. The programme was started with welcome address by Mr. Adnan Aqib NSS Headboy and the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ms. Rabia Koser NSS Volunteer. 07 students presented their talk in the symposium. Ms. Rabia Koser of B.A semester 3rd secured 1st Position whereas 2nd and 3rd Positions were clinched by Ms. Saba Naz and Mr. Adnan Aqib of BSc. 5th semester respectively. The programme was adjudged by Dr. Nahim-Un-Nisa HoD Arabic, Prof Naveen Sharma HoD Environmental Sciences and Dr. Altaf Ahmed. Teachers were also felicitated during the event. He also guided and motivated students of the College to follow right path to reach their destiny. Principal of the college also threw light on importance of Teachers Day. Almost all the faculty members and a large numbers of students and NSS Volunteers attended the programme. *Govt. Degree College Thannamandi organized a mega event on G20 Presidency and Mission LiFE*

Govt, Degree College Thannamandi in collaboration with Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting organized a two days event at GDC Thannamandi in which a series of activities were conducted viz poster making, lectures of the resource persons, quiz and speeches by the NSS Volunteers of the College on the topic Mission LiFE, G20 Presidency and 9 Saal Bemisaal. The event was conducted under the patronage of Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed. The ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation of NSS Volunteers and students from other institutions. Sub Divisional Magistrate Thannamandi, Shafiq Ahmed Mir, Tehsildar Thannamandi, Sayed Shail Ali Shah, Officers and Officials of ICDS and Medical Department were also present during the event. The resource person Prof. Mudasir Majid HoD Islamic Studies and Prof. Naveen Sharma HoD Environmental Studies presented their valuable talk on the topic G20 Presidency and Mission LiFE respectively. Three NSS Volunteers namely Mr. Adnan Aqib, Ms. Saba Naz and Ms. Noosheen Qureshi also presented their views on this occasion. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Tajinder Singh HoD Botany. A poster making competition was also organised on the day first in which 13 students from the College and 20 from the Muslim Education Trust School participated. Among the participants of the poster making competition Ms. Javaria Khan, Mr. Adnan Aqib and Ms. Aqsa Raina students of B.Sc Semester 5th clinched 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Dr. Nahim-Un-Nisa HoD Arabic, Prof. Muhammad Shoket HoD Education and NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Altaf Ahmed and Dr. Ibrahim Lone were also present during the event. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Naveen Sharma and Prof. Mudasir Majid.

“Music is a world within itself; with a language we all understand"

Cultural Committee of Govt. Degree College Thannamandi organized a singing competition under the initiative of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The Cultural Committee of Government Degree College (GDC) Thannamandi achieved a resounding triumph as it orchestrated an enchanting singing competition that captivated the hearts of both participants and attendees. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of renowned singer Mr. Mehran Shah, who attended as the guest of honor, adding a touch of star power to the occasion.
Under the masterful guidance of Dr. Mohd Ibrahim, who played a pivotal role as the chief organizer, the singing competition unfolded flawlessly, showcasing a seamless blend of talent, passion, and musical finesse. The contributions of Prof. Rumy Dar, Dr. Tajinder Singh, and Dr. Altaf Ahmed further elevated the event's ex*****on, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all involved.
The event's chief guest, Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, the Principal of GDC Thannamandi, underscored the significance of such cultural endeavors in nurturing and promoting artistic expression among the youth. He lauded the efforts of the organizing team and expressed his appreciation for their dedication in creating a platform that celebrates musical talent.
The competition saw fierce yet friendly competition among the participants, each showcasing their vocal prowess and artistic flair. After an electrifying display of talent by the students, the judges had the unenviable task of selecting the winners. Number of Studnts participated in the event were Mr. Sheraz Ahmed, Rabia Koser, Miss Heena Khan,, Miss Toiba Anjum, Miss Sahiba, Miss Mehnaz and Miss Rabia Basri of 3rd Sem. The Cultural Committee of GDC Thannamandi demonstrated its unwavering commitment to nurturing the arts and providing a platform for budding talents to shine. All the staff members were present during the occasion and at the end Dr. Khalid Riyaz extended vote of thanks. “World Nature Conservation Day”




Govt. Degree College Thannamandi in collaboration with 48RR Indian Army Thannamandi, NSS Unit, NCC Unit, Department of Botany and Eco Club of the College organized a mega plantation drive in the college campus to celebrate “World Nature Conservation Day” under the banner of “Meri Mati Mara Desh Campaign”. The event was conducted under the patronage of Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed. On the occasion Tehsildar Thannamandi Sahil Ali Shah and Major Aakash Sharma of 48RR were also present. A large number of Army Officer and Officials, NSS Volunteers, NCC Cadets and Students participated in this plantation drive. The plantation drive was inaugurated by pledge taking ceremony by all the participants which was read out by Adnan Aqib NSS Volunteer. Later on to kick start the plantation drive saplings of various plants were planted by the dignitaries viz Principal Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Tehsildar Sahil Ali Shah and Major Aakash Sharma. The aim of event was to enrich the biodiversity and beautification of the campus.
Principal of the college gave a highly knowledgeable and motivational lecture to volunteers to upgrade the environment and to inculcate the leadership qualities among them by extending services for the betterment of the society and generation to come with conserving the environmental resources such as forest, water etc and also enlightened them regarding importance of plantation. All the staff members were also present during the event. Principal of the College extended heartily thanks to the Officers and Officials of 48 RR Indian Army, Tehsil Administration, Staff of College, Media Persons, NSS Volunteers, NCC Cadets and Students.
