Our little cubs made their trip to Bappa's pandal, packed into the van with their faces at the window, walking in a line with their hands on each other's shoulders, standing quietly in front of Ganpati Bappa.

We didn't go to teach them a ritual. We went so they could feel something: that you wait your turn, that you bow your head to something bigger than you, that prasad tastes better when it's shared.

Nobody taught him to fold his hands. He just watched, and then he did it. 🙏

Bappa removes obstacles. We're asking Him for something simpler, that these little ones grow up kind, curious and brave. The kind of citizens this country deserves. 🇮🇳

It's the question we're asked most at this time of year, and we understand why. June feels like the proper starting line, and September can feel like arriving late to something already in progress.

Here's our honest answer: no.

At two and three years old, children aren't catching up on a syllabus. They're learning to sit with a task and see it through. To share a table. To ask for what they need instead of crying for it. To speak up in a room full of other children. None of that runs on an academic calendar, and in a small group a new child settles in within a fortnight.

What we'd rather you didn't do is wait eight months for a date on a calendar while your child is ready now.

One of our parents put it better than any brochure could:

"My child was so scared to speak. Now he talks — and he plays with everyone."

We found the Makhan Chor. 💛

Both hands in the pot. Not even slightly sorry about it.
He'd been eyeing that handi all morning. We told the children the story of little Krishna and the butter and he decided the story needed a rather more hands-on interpretation.

This is our favorite thing about festival days. You can teach a three-year-old the words, but the moment they become the character is the bit that actually stays with them.

Every parent does the same thing at pick-up. 🎒

Unzip the bag. Check whether the tiffin came back empty. Check the water bottle — and worry a little if it's still full.

Then the notebook comes out, and there's something in it that wasn't there yesterday.

The tiffin and the bottle are logistics. That last one is the actual job.

What actually happens on Colour Day 💙

Every parent has wondered whether these days are just an excuse to dress the kids up and take photos.

Here's the part that doesn't make it into the photos: forty minutes of children cutting, folding and sticking blue paper. Two-year-olds who normally can't sit for five minutes, finishing a task — because the whole room is doing it together.

That's the actual point of a colour day. The clothes are just the invitation.
