NAPSWI Week 2026:

The Department of Social Work, Tezpur University, organised a day-long programme to commemorate NAPSWI Week 2026.

Based on the theme this year, "Strengthening minds, strengthening families", the programme featured interactive sessions on the role of families from a public health perspective.

The sessions included a talk by our research scholar, Balaka Chattaraj on treatment adherence and health disparities; followed by a talk on the role of families in substance use by Abhishek Chakraborty and the last interactive session featured a talk on nutrition, and the role of people, place, policy, politics, and the planet in shaping health by Sayan Deori. It also included an expressive art therapy session by Kashmita Das, a movie screening with reflective sharing, and the inauguration of the second edition of Social Echoes, the department magazine.

Through these engaging activities, the department celebrated the values of social work practice, reflection, participation, and collective action.

We are delighted to announce the launch of the second edition of Social Echoes, the official e-magazine of the Department of Social Work, Tezpur University, on 1st September 2026.

Building on the journey begun with the inaugural edition, this issue continues to showcase the Department’s commitment to social justice, community engagement, critical reflection, and transformative social work practice. Through fieldwork narratives, community-outreach initiatives, scholarly reflections, creative expressions, and alumni stories, Social Echoes brings together the diverse voices and experiences that shape social work education and practice.

This edition explores a wide range of concerns from mental health, gender, health and well-being, de-addiction, education, and community resilience to environmental justice and the lived realities of communities. It also introduces "The Alumni Log," a special space that celebrates the journeys, memories, and professional contributions of our alumni across diverse fields.

The magazine has been developed and edited by the faculty members of the Department, with the contribution of our research scholar, Abhishek Chakraborty, whose work has been central to bringing this edition to life. Khushi Goel and Aditya Saikia were also instrumental in content collection and proofreading.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all student contributors, faculty members, alumni, fieldwork agencies, community partners, and readers whose support and participation have made this edition possible.

We invite you to read, reflect, share, and engage with the stories and ideas carried in these pages. May Social Echoes continue to inspire conversations, strengthen solidarities, and remind us that meaningful change begins when we listen deeply and act collectively.

Tezpur is going to have its first pride walk on the 25th of September!!
Today, we tried to mobilize people and raise funds. Of course, capital is necessary for such an initiative but what we need more is to have your support. Please do join us, give your valuable input and spread love.
We felt so blessed to see so many people for today's jamming session which is leading us towards a wish of seeing more people join for the walk of Pride on the very day.
Come forward, connect with us, and ask your friend to join too.
Cause, at the end of the day, we need each other, isn't it?
See you on 25th!! 🏳‍🌈
