What happens to journalism when the gatekeepers of information are no longer only editors, but algorithms?

Prof. Joya Chakraborty, Department of MCJ, Tezpur University, explored this evolving question in her public lecture, “From the Newsroom to the Algorithm: Communication, Power and Society in a Changing World,” at Assam University, Silchar.

Reflecting on the changing architectures of communication, Prof. Chakraborty examined how technology is reshaping media, power, public discourse and the relationship between society and information.

The lecture was part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Department of Mass Communication, Assam University, a particularly meaningful occasion for Prof. Chakraborty, who completed her M.A. in Mass Communication from Assam University (1999–2001).

As part of her academic engagement at the University, she also participated in a BPGS meeting of the Department. The Department takes pride in her continued contribution to critical conversations on media and communication in a rapidly transforming world.
