Remembering Bhupen Da - 100 Years of a Timeless Voice

On the Birth Centenary of Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University, pays heartfelt tribute to the Bard of the Brahmaputra.

Through his art, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika gave expression to the dreams, struggles and dignity of ordinary people, carrying Assam and the Northeast to audiences far beyond their borders.

A century after his birth, his voice still lives, in our songs, our stories, our memories and our collective imagination.

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University, proudly congratulates Rahul Rohan Paul on securing the 2nd Best Debater position at the 44th Manik Chandra Barooah Memorial National Debate Competition, organised by Cotton University.

Competing among 50+ participants from across different states, Rahul represented Tezpur University with distinction at one of the country’s most prestigious and long-standing debating competitions.

His achievement brings immense pride to TUMCJ and adds another remarkable chapter to the Department’s tradition of excellence in debate, public speaking and critical engagement.

TUMCJ at National Pragati Dialogue, 2026

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University, congratulates its Research Scholar Abhishek Kabra on his participation in the National Pragati Dialogue 2026 as an Advisory Member to the National Youth Statement on BRICS through BRICS CCI.

Abhishek, also moderated a panel discussion on “Strengthening Institutional Resilience: Localizing SDGs through Grassroots Governance and Public Health Frameworks", held as a part of the Pragati Dialogue.

From TUMCJ to Oxford: Dr Ujjaini Chakrabarty Joins International Research Project

A proud moment for the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University as its alumna Dr Ujjaini Chakrabarty joins the international research team of the Bhagavata Purana Research Project, spearheaded by the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, United Kingdom.

Currently an Assistant Professor at Vishwakarma University, Pune, Dr Chakrabarty completed her PhD from Tezpur University, with her doctoral research focusing on the oral tradition of Srimad Bhagavata Katha and its contribution to the cultural memory of India.

Notably, her research was carried out under the supervision of Prof Joya Chakraborty.

Her selection brings the scholarship nurtured at TUMCJ to an international research platform exploring the transmission, interpretation and cultural significance of one of India’s foundational sacred texts.

TUMCJ congratulates Dr Ujjaini Chakrabarty on this remarkable academic achievement and wishes her every success in this new scholarly journey. 🌿

TUMCJ at the Byatikram PR & Corporate Communications Conclave 2026

The Byatikram PR and Corporate Communications Conclave 2026 brought together leading voices from PR, media and communication; and, for TUMCJ, it was also a remarkable coming together of a larger academic legacy.

Among the speakers, professionals and practitioners were pioneers of media education in Northeast India, members of the current faculty, and accomplished alumni of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Tezpur University, reflecting the Department’s enduring contribution to the region’s communication ecosystem.

The TUMCJ presence included Prof. Joya Chakraborty, Dr. Anjuman Borah, Dr. Sayanika Dutta, Madhurjya Singha Lahkar, Ruma Chakraborty, Swakkhyar Deka, Jyotisha Saikia, Kuwoli Hazarika and Gaurav Gautam Saha, representing different generations and professional trajectories within the field.
