Rajesh Sarkar: A Life Dedicated to Canvas and Culture
Rajesh Sarkar is a distinguished artist, painter, and fine arts educator whose life is a testament to the transformative power of visual expression. With nearly three decades of experience, he has become a cornerstone of the artistic community in Tezpur, bridging the gap between traditional technique and creative mentorship.
The Early Strokes of Genius
Born on July 17, 1985, in the culturally rich city of Tezpur, Assam, Rajesh was raised by his parents, Mr. Rabindra Chandra Sarkar and Smt. Pushpa Sarkar. Growing up in the "City of Eternal Romance"—famed for the legend of Usha and Aniruddha—it was perhaps inevitable that he would find a home in the arts.
As a child, Rajesh possessed a quiet intensity, spending hours meticulously copying images he salvaged from newspapers and magazines. This raw talent was first recognized by his elder brother, the late Samir Sarkar, who enrolled him in formal art training in 1992. This pivotal moment set him on a path that would lead to numerous state and district-level accolades.
Academic Excellence and Mentorship
Rajesh’s formal education reflects a deep commitment to mastering his craft. He earned his academic foundations at Mahabhairab Harisabha Primary School and Tezpur Bengali Boys' H.S. School. His specialized training includes:
Visharad in Visual Arts from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh.
Shilpa Ratna in Visual Arts from Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-O-Sanskriti Parishad (S.S.S.P), Kolkata.
Guided by the creative philosophy of his Guru Mata, Mrs. Alaka Sharma, Rajesh developed the creative depth that defines his work today.
Legacy of Kala Bhawan
For the past 20 years, Rajesh has served as the Center Holder for Kala Bhawan, Tezpur (affiliated with S.S.S.P, Kolkata). As an art tutor with 26 years of hands-on experience, he has shaped the minds of countless aspiring artists, passing on the discipline and passion he learned as a student.
"Art is not just a career for Rajesh; it is a lifelong devotion. He remains profoundly grateful to his family—his parents for their unwavering support of his dreams, and his wife, Ish*ta, who manages the administrative heart of Kala Bhawan."
A Vision for the Future
Though he carries the bittersweet memory of his brother Samir, whose early encouragement made this journey possible, Rajesh feels the strength of those blessings in every brushstroke. Today, he continues to dedicate his life to the enrichment of art and culture, ensuring that the vibrant heritage of Assam lives on through the next generation of creators.
