Sanika Singh (MPP 2025–27) writes that art has never existed in isolation from politics. Her blog, Politicisation of Art Through the Ages, explores how art has served both as a tool of political influence and as a powerful medium for marginalized communities to reclaim their voices. While art is inevitably shaped by the socio-political realities around it, she argues that creative freedom must remain protected from deliberate political interference so that art can continue to challenge, connect, and inspire.

Krithi Ganesh (MPP 2026) in this issue brief examines honour-seeking as an emotional driver in Russia-Japan relations, arguing that bilateral interactions have been shaped not merely by material interests but by concerns of prestige, recognition, and face-saving. Drawing on constructivist and emotional diplomacy frameworks, it traces how the 1904–05 Russia-Japanese War established a legacy of humiliation that continues to influence territorial disputes, diplomatic postures, and post-Cold War engagement. China serves as a background civilisational reference point. The Issue brief concludes that emotions are indispensable to understanding enduring patterns of rivalry between both states.
