Dhan Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur's Shaheedi Gurpurab today.

Sacrificed for upholding freedom of expression, to freely practise one's faith, against Mughal tyranny.

Maharaj Sahib's Parkash was at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mehal, Amritsar (10 minutes walk from Darbar Sahib). The son of Sri Guru HarGobind Sahib, He was named Tyaag Mal at birth & had a nature of 'tyaag' being detached from the world.

Married at Kartarpur (near Jalandhar) to Mata Gujar Kaur Jee. He was renamed 'Tegh Bahadur' = 'valiant warrior of the sword' by His Father the 6th Guru after showing much valour in battle.

Maharaj settled in Baba Bakala to do Bhagti (stern meditations) & did this for 26 years. When annointed the 9th Guru, Maharaj conducted the 1st ever Akhand Paath at Allahabad for the Parkash of the 10th Guru. Maharaj went to Patna, left his family there, whilst touring east India & Bangladesh.

When they returned Guru Gobind Singh was 6 years old. They then went to Anandpur Sahib & onto Delhi for their ultimate sacrifice.

Bhai Sati Das/Ram, Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Deyala were all tortued to death = Shaheed. Maharaj made their sacrifice. Gurdwara Rakab Ganj is where Maharaj's body was cremated in secret. Sis Ganj Sahib is where Maharaj gave Shaheedi. Shaheed Ganj in Anandpur Sahib is where Maharaj's Sis (head) was cremated after presenting it to Maharaj
